First Sunday of Advent (Year C)
Vol. 205/12/2018
1st & 2nd December 2018
To you, O Lord, I lift my soul.
1. Lord, make me know your ways. Lord, teach me your paths. Make me walk in your truth, and teach me: for you are God my saviour. R. 2. The Lord is good and upright. He shows the path to those who stray, he guides the humble in the right path; he teaches his way to the poor. R. 3. His ways are faithfulness and love for those who keep his covenant and
will. The Lord’s friendship is for those who revere him; to them he reveals his covenant. R.
Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, alleluia!
Lord, show us
your mercy
and love,
and grant us
your salvation.
Alleluia!
Advent Wreath Ceremony
Light the first purple candle. God, we ask you to bless our Advent wreath. It has evergreen leaves, reminding us that you will always be with us…and it is shaped like a circle, with no beginning and no end, just like your love for us.
Jesus, we look forward to celebrating your birth at Christmas. Open our hearts to love all the people we meet each day.
Come, Lord Jesus into our hearts.
Saturday 6 pm - Hope Family
Sunday 8 am - Zeli Eigures Sunday 9.30 am - Maureen Wild & Loretta Turner
Sunday 6 pm - Youth Group
Advent: A Season of Blessings Praise be to Jesus Christ! Today we begin a new liturgical year with Advent. Advent means “Coming”. Jesus is coming. In other words, we are going to celebrate the Nativity of the lord in the liturgy which is popularly known as Christmas across the globe. Hence it is period of preparation for His coming. It is a hopeful waiting for Jesus. Our prayer must be “Maranatha” meaning ‘Come, O Lord’. The season of Advent has four weeks and four themes, namely, hope, love, joy and peace.
Hope: The theme of the first week of advent is Hope. In the Holy Bible, hope has a deep understanding. Hope is the confident expectation of what God has promised and its strength is in His faithfulness. In the simplest terms, Jesus is our hope.
Love: The theme of the second week is love. The Greek word for Christian love is Agape. Agape depicts the self-sacrificing love of a parent for a child and describes God’s love for the world as shown in Christ (Jn 3, 16). Jesus is coming to love and to express God’s love for the world. Jesus is our love.
Joy: The theme of the third week is joy. Joy is a state of mind and an orientation of the heart. It is a settled state of contentment, confidence and hope. Joy is something deep within and doesn’t leave quickly. It is given by God. Jesus brings joy and Jesus is our joy.
Peace: The theme of the fourth week is peace. The Hebrew word for peace is “Shalom”. It describes the realm where chaos is not allowed to enter. The Greek word for peace has a wide range of notion of totality or completeness, success, fulfilment, wholeness, harmony, security and well-being. Jesus is prince of peace and Jesus is our peace.
Dear friends, a heart full of hope, love, joy and peace is the blessing of the Child Jesus. Let us pray earnestly that let this advent and Christmas preparation may turn out to be
“A season of Hope A season of Love A season of Joy A season of Peace”
in our hearts, in our homes and in our relationships.
May Lord Jesus Christ bless you and your family abundantly.
Wish you all a fruitful Advent.
Fr Albin

Vinnies Christmas Appeal
Despite 25 years of unbroken economic growth Australia has failed to reduce its overall levels of poverty in the last decade. This is where Vinnies must step in. Vinnies is committed to enabling families and individuals to experience joy, dignity and security this Christmas time.
To make a financial donation, there are envelopes on the church pews – please place your donation in the envelope and hand in during the collection, at the Parish Office, or to our welfare office at 23 Davey Street. The envelopes can be posted, but please do not post the envelopes with cash in them. There is provision on the envelopes for paying by Credit card if that is your preferred option. Donations of $2.00 and over are tax-deductible. Please tick the box if you require a receipt.
On our Christmas tree there are many colourful tags. Each tag has a food item printed on it. Please take a tag or as many tags as you wish to purchase the items, then place these items in the box provided. This food will be used to provide the needy with food items for the next few weeks – a very welcome form of help after all the expenses of Christmas. Thank you for your continued generosity to Vinnies Mandurah
