WHEN HE COMES WILL I BE ASLEEP?
This Gospel makes me reflect on my need to receive pardon in the sacrament of reconciliation. The definitive moment of my death, that very special face-to-face encounter with you, Lord, might come when I am not expecting it. I must be ready for that moment. I want to be able to look you fully in the eye. I have sought to please you in my actions, and when I have failed, I have turned to you through confession to be washed of my sins. I want to hear you say to me: “Well done, good and faithful servant. Come share my joy” (Matthew 25:23). (Father John Doyle, LC)

The CWL is having a Bake Sale on Sunday December 10, 2017 after both the 9:00 & 11:00 Masses and we need help from our parish bakers. The proceeds will help support the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Previous bake sales have been very successful due to the generous donations of many parishioners. If you would like to donate baked goods, please bring them to the church the night before or the morning of the bake sale.

WE ARE THE CLAY
Clay was the plastic of ancient times. It could be formed by hand or in molds to any shape and then permanently fixed in that condition by heat. Until casting in an oven it could be reformed
in any format. Clay was cheap and readily available. Potters learned to
work with it to the right consistency for shaping. They might use a wheel to
turn it for symmetrical formats. It was used for bowls, jugs, bottles and other containers. If broken it could be replaced easily. Isaiah likens the work of a potter to the reformation of our souls by God. If we turn out badly, God can reshape us at will. With God's grace we can change at any point in our lives until we are "fixed" in shape by death. (Father Richard Lonsdale)

REJOICE IN GOD'S MERCY REFLECTION - 1ST SUNDAY OF ADVENT It is easy to become complacent, doing things the way we have always done them and making excuses for the things we do not want to change. Life is hard and we can become rigid and obstinate out of self-defense. Yet, in the loving creative hand of God, we are to be like clay is to the potter. The sacrament of Reconciliation is a safe place to put aside the armour of our stubbornness and be strengthened by the grace of God given in Christ Jesus. Action Item: Each evening this week identify three ways God has shown you kindness and gentleness. Rejoice in God's Mercy! The sacrament of Reconciliation will be available at parishes throughout the Diocese of Calgary all the Wednesdays of Advent from 7:30-8:30 p.m. ORDINATION OF DEREK REMUS TO THE TRANSITIONAL DIACONATE Mr. Derek Remus has been called to Holy Orders and will be ordained to the Transitional Diaconate by Most Rev. William T. McGrattan in his pastoral year parish, St. Bonaventure, Calgary, at 5pm on Saturday, December 23, 2017. St. James Parish in Okotoks is building the Town of Bethlehem in the field next to the church. There, you will see real people interacting in elements of that time; a bakery, a pottery booth, a wine shop, a spice shop, a wool shop, an inn, a prison, a Roman Solider hut (with real horses), a carpenter’s workshop, a blacksmith, a tax collector’s office, a candle shop, shepherds, and a stable with the Holy Family. There will also be choirs singing carols to add to the festivities. Food and beverages will be available for a small price, and donations will be accepted to help cover the costs of the event. Mass will be celebrated at 5:30pm. Invite your family & friends, and follow the signs to the “Town of Bethlehem” to join us for an evening of fellowship

It will offer skills about managing diverse shared parenting situations and provide strategies for improving communication, resolving conflict, and managing day to day children’s issues between parenting partners.
