Celebrating over a Century of Faith and Education

St. Barbara Parish is a Roman Catholic community celebrating a century of faith in the Bridgeport area. Our faith community welcomes all people, helping them grow spiritually through liturgy, prayer, and education, and socially through activities for all ages. Our school takes great pride in fostering these values in our children. We give witness to our faith by sharing with each other our God-given gifts and talents. We nourish and sustain our faith as a family by celebrating the sacraments and the presence of the risen Lord among us in the Eucharist.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Today is the First Sunday of Advent. As the world is immersed in the Christmas-before-Christmas chaos of buying presents and going to parties, we celebrate a time of silence, preparation, repentance, contem-plation, and awaiting Christmas with hope-filled joy. For Catholics, Advent is a special time when we have the opportunity not only to contemplate the mystery of the Incarnation, but also to prepare our-selves for Christ’s second coming. Advent is a time to reflect in the silence of our hearts upon the fact that we, too, will one day stand before God and to give to give an account of our lives. We do not know when this day or moment will come. Yet, the Church urges us to be ready This Advent, then, is a time for us to examine our con-sciences in the light of God’s incarnate love and to ask ourselves this question: “Am I ready for the Last Judgment?” * * * * Today, at the 9:30 am Mass, we are honored to have the Most Reverend Alberto Rojas, Auxiliary Bishop of Vicariate III, as our celebrant. When you see Bishop Rojas, please thank him for helping us honor our patron saint, St. Barbara. Fr. Arthur

A Mass of Healing will be said this Tuesday, December 5th, at 6:00 p.m. in Church. This Mass is for the intention of all

who need health blessings. Be sure to join us for this special Mass which takes place the first Tuesday of every month. If there is anyone whom you would like to especial-ly remember at this Mass, please submit their name to the rectory at (312) 842-7979.
