Kings Beach was named after the King family, the first residents in the area. After living in Moffat Head, in James Moffat's home for awhile, they move to Kings Beach in1893. Within Kings Beach boundaries is Wickham Head, a headland, which the hospital ship, the AHS Centaur is believed to have been sunk in 1943.
