Newsletter Week 7 – Term 2 2020

Wow, what a week here at Delegate Public School. So many positive stories to come out of Week’s 5 and 6. Our attendance rate is as good as it has ever been and students have returned from lockdown with a great attitude and a thirst for learning. I would like to extend a massive thank you to Mr Whitlock who gave up his own time to accompany me to Sydney on three consecutive days to pick up some brand-new furniture donated by our partners Good360 Australia, Domayne and Harvey Norman. The whole experience was extremely moving and so pleasing to be able to give back to our wonderful school community. Check out the photos in this newsletter to see all the fun and frivolity had by all. We can’t thank Good360 Australia enough for their ongoing support of our school and community. As I write this newsletter, Good360 Australia have currently donated $265,222.00 worth of brand-new goods to our school and families. It is quite unbelievable and overwhelming the support they have given us. Last week students also received a donation of two beautiful new books from Dymocks Children’s Charities Australia. Emergency Lockdown Drill As part of our schools yearly Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements to conduct Emergency Drills each year. This Thursday we will be conducting an Emergency Lockdown Drill that will take approximately 30 minutes and will include an emergency warning through the internal phone system, drawing of the blinds in all learning areas and gathering of students in a safe area in each learning area. If you would like to discuss this drill with your child, then this may prepare them for the event on Thursday. There will be class discussions today to also reinforce what will be happening and what is required of students.

COVID-19 Protocols Community Use of School Grounds Until further notice there will be no community use of school grounds.

Visiting the School Until further notice there will be no visitors allowed on school grounds other than Department of Education staff or approved contractors or delivery personnel. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and understand that this is a difficult aspect of lockdown for our community, especially given the open-door nature of our school and the connection we have to the community. If parents or carers need to have a meeting with class teachers, please call the school office to organise a phone interview. Please ensure the school is the point of contact and not the personal numbers of staff. During pick up and drop off, parents are asked to remain outside the school gate and maintain social distancing measures with other adults around them.

School Activities Until further notice there will be no School Assemblies that families or community members can attend. Interschool sports activities have been cancelled until further notice and excursions have been put on hold. We are continuing to organise the Year 6 Melbourne Excursion and will keep families informed with progress as restrictions ease across the nation Staff Professional Learning and Meetings During the COVID-19 period, staff have been working tirelessly to upskill in a multitude of areas to support their own professional development and to better support student learning in the classroom. An ongoing professional development plan is being developed will all teachers to support further growth and development.

School Attendance All students should now be at school from now on unless: * They have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition. * They are currently unwell. It is important to remind parents that it is their responsibility to provide a verbal or written notification to school within seven days of the absence, informing us of the reason for the absence of their child. If a student is away for two consecutive days, teaching staff will make contact to ensure absent students are well and if the school can provide any support needed.

School Hygiene Students returning to school do not need to follow physical social distancing guidelines (adults will still follow social distancing guidelines), but will need to follow good hygiene practices, such as: * Regularly washing hands * Avoiding sharing drinks or foods * Coughing or sneezing into their elbows, or a tissue which should be discarded immediately.

School Times Please be aware that students who arrive at school prior to 8:45am are not supervised by staff. Buses arrive at this time and if the buses arrive a few minutes prior, this can be accommodated to allow the bus to continue its journey. Staff arriving at school prior to this time, use the time to effectively plan the day’s learning activities and for conducting professional conversations with colleagues. The safety of our students is paramount; however families need to be aware of school starting and finishing times. We understand that from time to time there may be extenuating circumstances and in these instances please converse with your child’s teacher to ensure adequate supervision is arranged. Smoking Please remember that smoking is prohibited within 10 metres of school grounds.

Have a great fortnight, Brad and Staff
