The MessengerA Message from Pastor Marie…Are any among you suffering? They should pray… (James 5:13) We began Wednesday, Reformation Day, and will continue on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. It is a service borne of desperate need in response to what the scriptures tell us: pray. The service will be called Prayer Practice because that is what we will be doing. For :30 - :40 minutes on Wednesday mornings we will practice different forms of prayer, together. Six people attended our first Prayer Practice. I hope that more will come. It is hard to continue to hear all the traumatic events taking place in our world and feel so helpless. So often, it seems, there is nothing we can do. And yet there is: what we can do... is pray. “Pray without ceasing,” wrote Paul to the Thessalonians. There are many types of Prayer: Praying in Color is a technique that allows one to sketch while praying; journaling is a form of writing our prayers; lectio divina is an ancient form of prayer that uses a verse from scripture as a mantra to center the one who is praying. At prayer practice we will learn about these forms and more. We will pray without ceasing for those affected by natural disasters; for families and friends who are suffering; for those imprisoned unjustly. We will pray in thanksgiving and celebrate together as prayers are answered. We will pray the Prayer of St. Francis, The Serenity Prayer, The Lord’s Prayer. We will write prayers and whisper prayers and be still. I pray that a musician will emerge who is willing to provide music for our Prayer Practice, but until that happens we will use a beautiful variety of recorded music to enhance our practice. For 125 years our sanctuary has contained and upheld the prayers of people bursting with joy and crippled with grief. As we celebrate All Saints Sunday we remember all those who’ve died in the faith, on whose shoulders we stand. We believe they are with us at the table when we celebrate Holy Communion, which is why we pray “with the Church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn.” Prayer has given strength to the weary, hope to the hopeless, and peace to the anxious for generations of believers. And when it is done in community, the time we share together begins the healing for which we pray. Please come to prayer practice…Wednesday mornings at First English…Let Us Pray.

Psalm 106:1 -“Praise ye the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.”

This means that we should thank God everyday and for everything because he is merciful. By giving thanks to him you will never feel away from him.

Phil. 4:6 -”We tell God our problems, making our requests known to Him with thanksgiving.”

This means through Thanksgiving we can offer our prayers to God who will know what are our problems.

Thessalonians 5:18 –”In every thing give thanks; for this is the will of God.”

This verse talks about the power of faith and thanksgiving. It says that you must believe in God’s will and should trust Him because only He knows what is good for you. Once you start trusting His will you will give thanks for everything that happens.

Psalms 50:14 –”Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most high.”

According to this Thanksgiving thought in the Bible it is believed that God commands us to be thankful so that we are humble enough to offer our gratitude towards the Almighty who protects us.

Psalms 92:1 –”It is a good thing to give thanks unto the lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High.”

In this Thanksgiving Bible verse, thanksgiving is believed to be a good thing and this habit of thanking and praising the Lord should be inculcated.

Psalms 140:1 –”Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name; the upright shall dwell in thy presence.”

This beautiful verse from the Psalms tells us about the power of Thanksgiving. It says that if you are thankful to God then he will always be with you. You can feel His presence by giving thanks.

Thanksgiving does not only bring us closer to the people but also to God. Share these Thanksgiving thoughts in the Bible with your friends and make your life more beautiful.

Thanksgiving in the Bible

The Bible is the most sacred text, which associated man to God through love, faith, forgiveness and Thanksgiving. There is a special relevance of Thanksgiving in the Bible. Thanksgiving Day also is the day to express gratitude towards each person who is connected with our lives. The Bible says that each day we should be thankful to feel the love of God.
