HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
Please be sure to stop and give thanks for the blessing of
this Country and the men and women to help to keep it free!
This month is going to be very busy. For me, Co-Leading Grand Camp at Tawakoni (Disciples Camp outside Wichita) will conclude July 2. Not many days later, the General Assembly will convene in Nashville, followed by Pastor’s School. Vacation Bible School is July 24-28, followed by leading music at Grand Camp - Tall Oaks, July 31 - August 2,… when two of my granddaughters start Equestrian Camp there. So much for the sentiment of the song from Porgy and Bess,…. “Summertime… and the living is easy…”
Of these commitments, I would like to encourage you to keep the Assembly in your prayers. This is the largest gathering of Disciples and it is there that decisions that affect our congregations are discussed and made. Resolutions to be considered deal with “War and Peace,” “Christian Unity,” and “Immigration.” Other business items will include addressing anti-Muslim activities in the USA, a call for reflection on behalf of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a resolution on human trafficking, new congregation establishment, speaking out against bullying, sexual abuse, and re-electing Dr. Sharon Watkins as General Minister and President. These are important issues and I hope you will keep them in prayer.
In August (September at the latest) I will print a report on the actions taken.
Vacation Bible School is fast approaching and we need more volunteers to successfully carry out the five day program. Each session is held in the evening, and promises to be creative and inspiring….but we can’t do it without YOU! Please consider offering your hands and feet for Christ.
Finally, inside this newsletter you will find a survey. It is intended to help us graph a demographic picture of our congregation. (Another Team is doing the same for the community.) The two, in combination, will help us identify areas where we can begin reaching out into the Community for Christ, more effectively. We are committed to following through with the suggestions you gave us last fall, embracing a focused Missional Minded Ministry. I hope you will take the time to fill out the Survey and send it in (or drop it by the Church).
HAVE A SAFE 4th Of JULY!

The “Bonner Quilting Bees” will meet at the church on July 21st at 6:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall if anyone is interested in coming to see what our club is about. We meet every 3rd Thursday of the month, unless the church has a need for Fellowship Hall.
We delivered lap size, fleece shawls, lap throws and quilts, to the Tongy Nursing Home on the 15th of June. Last year we did it for the Bonner Nursing home. They really enjoyed and appreciated our efforts.
Thanks to Beth Enloe for donating several yards of fleece!
After two months of illnesses and canceling two meetings we will hold the July 6th meeting at the home of Dora Stolfus at 9:30 a.m.
We will turn to our summer schedule through September at which time we will meet for breakfast at Tall Oaks!
Please know I wish you a blessed summer.
Love in Christ, Lorine Shannon
The Bonner Edwardsville Area Singles (BEAS) enjoyed the Historic Homes of Overland Park tour, May 21st coordinated by Darlene then followed by lunch at Great Day Café. Hostesses for our June 4th, potluck were Sharon, Sally and Ruth Ann. Ruth Ann shared her clown collection for décor on tables along with yummy gum drops. Juanita shared a video of her Polar Bear trip to Manitoba, Canada last November - “very cool.” Alice had a vacationing opportunity in July, so she and I will switch hostess duties, making Marcia, Tim and me hosts for July 2nd when we have a guest speaker. Bertha Cameron from Monticello Museum will be speaking about Zarah, Wilder, and other former towns across the river. July 16th we have a trip to the Monticello Museum with lunch in the area. We are always open to suggestions for summertime activities and new members.
Twila Williams - Secretary - Treasurer
Nifty Fifty Plus met in the church parking lot on Sunday, June 12th and carpooled to Spring Hill to see Ken and Edna Stewart. The nursing home furnished coffee, tea and cookies. Edna showed them her bell and elephant collection. It was a fun time for everyone involved. On the way home we enjoyed a meal at Applebee's.
Remember, you do not have to be a member of the church in order to belong to Nifty Fifties. You need to be a couple and of which one is at least 50 years old. If you are interested, please call Karen at [email protected].
On July 17th at 6:30 p.m. we will meet at the home of Warren and Jane Hanks to play games. Dessert will be furnished. Plans are for Jane to furnish ice cream and toppings; Marilyn will furnish sugar free ice cream and toppings and Karen will provide cookies. Please RSVP Karen at [email protected] before July 13th.
Dear Friends in Christ - Thank you for the calls, cards and prayers. I am home after 38 days and hope to resume normality soon. God is our strength in all things. Praise be to God. Yours in Christ’s Love - Beth Enloe
Thanks to all our church family for cards and prayers for us after mom passed on June 7th. It means so much to have such a caring church. Blessings, Sharon and Lyle Bracken

A recent email received from the Ozark Lakes Area Office of the Christian Church (DOC), is requesting monetary donations through their Area Ministry or through Week of Compassion, marked Joplin Tornado Relief. Volunteer effort are being coordinated through Missouri 211 - www.211missouri.org.
For more information see the Outreach bulletin boards at the church.
The Tall Oaks Gala is in October. You have time to make baskets to be auctioned. A baby’s basket could have a blanket, rattle, nail clippers, etc. It could be a basket of card games, microwave popcorn, table games like Farkle or Yahtzee for a family night. It could be a candle, chocolates, and a paperback book for a relaxing bath. The baskets do not have to have many items. Please help! Alice Campbell - Tall Oaks Ambassador
On July 10, our youth will be leaving for the Mission Trip to South Dakota. Please keep our leaders and youth in your prayers during their travels and service. This year, the group has the opportunity to serve the same location as last year. The youth may work with children they met last year.
Price Chopper Book Sale – We have LOTS of Price Chopper books still to sell. The coupons expire 7/31/2011. We have reduced the price of the books to $4. So…if you use the books, you are actually ahead of the game!!
Stephan Kyule will be leading the way for Miles for Missions on Sunday, July 3. We will meet in the church parking lot at 7:00 a.m. Our run/bike ride will be from Tall Oaks back to the church. Please support our youth and help us to go out and show others God’s love through our missions. As of this writing, we are about $500 shy of making our goal.
VBS begins on Sunday, July 24 and will go through Thursday, July 28. This year we are taking a trip to Nazareth and learning about where Jesus grew up. Vacation Bible School is an amazing time to reach out to children in our community. Each year, we reach about 60-65 children. In Matthew 19:14, Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." We know for some kids, this is their only time to learn about Jesus. Let’s make it count! Can we count on you? We still have many volunteer opportunities left. Some are only for an evening and some are every night. Come, be Disciples! Contact Debbie Lohmann to see where you can serve.
