Dear Church Family . . .

March is the month where we officially welcome the beginning of a new season called “spring” each

year. Spring brings to mind several things. Certainly the resurrection of Christ which we celebrate in spring;

also new life, as trees bud, and flowers bloom. For farmers and gardeners it is a time to plant in anticipa-

tion of a harvest of crops and vegetables to come. Spring is all these things and more. But what I have

come to most appreciate about spring is that it signifies a new beginning.

One of my very favorite verses in Scripture comes from 2 Corinthians 5:17 which says “Therefore, if

anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new.”

In the spring time things are “born again,” so to speak, and we know for a fact, on the basis of John 3, that

in order to enter the kingdom of Heaven one must be “born again.”

It amazes me sometimes how much of their old lives people hold on to even after claiming they have

had the experience of being “born again.” The New Testament never indicates that only a minor change or

adjustment is in play. Instead, it is a total life change. The latter part of verse 17 says “old things have

passed away; behold, all things have become new.” When I see someone who seems to hold on to the old

life, I really wonder about them. So much emphasis has been placed on some one-time event or

“profession” of faith somewhere, sometime in the past, but that is far from the best indicator of a person’s

status with Christ. The best indicator of any person being a true born-again follower of Jesus Christ is a

present, daily walk with Him. In other words, you should never have to tell or remind those who know you

that you are a Christian. It should be abundantly evident by your day to day life. This includes your overall

speech, the language you use, what you post on social media, what you watch on television, the type of

music you listen to, how faithful you are concerning the church of the Lord Jesus Christ, how hungry you are

for God’s Word, etc.

On a regular basis I encounter people who say they are a part of a particular church somewhere. It is

often one of the “hip” sorts of churches in the community. They and hundreds, maybe thousands just like

them attend a service and then blend in nicely with the world the rest of the time. About a decade or so

ago this really began to hit home to me when I started to see an unmistakable pattern with people who

were a part of a mega-church in my area. This church ran thousands total across its multiple weekend ser-

vices. The problem was that the lifestyles of just about everyone I knew of that went there were disturbing

to me. It was the chiropractor that I went to who played nothing but Christian music over the speakers in

his office, but was a serial adulterer. It was the massage therapist who saw nothing wrong with homosexual

relationships, it was 2 different couples who lived together without being married who thought nothing of

it. When I was in college I heard an evangelist say something that has always stuck with me. He said “A

‘religion’ that will not change the way you live your life will not save your soul or take you to Heaven when

you die.” (David Miller, SBC Evangelist)

Everywhere I go these days I see people who profess to be believers, but they fall for the devil’s tricks

and lies every time. God’s Word does not change; God Himself does not change. Hebrews 13:8 says “Jesus

Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Morals and values may change and a person may be in

good company; they may even be in the majority but that does not mean they are obeying Scripture. Be-

lievers bear the name “Christian” by identifying with Christ Jesus, not just in name, but in every possible

way. If you cannot or will not reorient your life around Christ then, according to the New Testament, you

need to be “born again”.

In Christ Our Lord,

Bro. Allen

Right Now Media Recommendation of the Month

“All people experience suffering and sorrow, yet our responses to suffering often vary widely. As

we grapple with the hardships and sorrows that accompany life in this fallen world, it is crucial that

we build our understanding of human suffering and divine sovereignty on the firm foundation of

Scripture. In this powerful 12-part teaching series, Dr. R.C. Sproul Jr. shares poignant stories from

his own life as he presents important Scriptural teachings about God's role in human suffering.”

The RightNow Media series “Suffering and the Sovereignty of God” is not only good and help-

ful to each of us as believers as we cope with the reality of suffering, it also is a very important tool

to help you increase your knowledge of this topic. Co-workers, friends, family and others ask you

questions from time to time about pain, suffering, disease, tragedy, etc. When there is a school

shooting, a terrorist attack, an F-5 tornado, a hurricane, or something else, how do you represent

God and His Word? This is exactly the sort of tool which will give you some much needed help.

“No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow” (old maxim)
