WHITTLE’S WRITINGS
The last couple of months my newsletter article has focused on servanthood. This is a theme that I want to encourage our church to be focused on in 2020. Serving one another and serving the community.
In Philippians 2:5-11 are some of the most beautiful words ever penned. As beautiful as they are, they are not just stuck in there unrelated to the rest of the letter. They fit into the context beginning 1:27, going through chapters 2-3 up to 4:3. Paul spends the majority of his time in the rest of the letter expounding on what he means in 1:27, “Conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ and stand firm.” Well how? How do we do this in the context of our church? In one spirit, like-minded, united, serving one another. Jesus is given as the perfect example of a servant. Jesus’ example should encourage us to have servants’ hearts. Not just to serve one another, but the focus should be serving Jesus through serving one another. This is stated clearly in 2 Corinthians 4:5. “For we do not proclaim ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and
ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake.” That would be joyful service. Let our love for each other and our service to one another be a bright light shining to the world around us.
It’s a pleasure to serve alongside you! Pastor Michael
THANK YOU!
I want to extend a sincere thank you to all those who shared my anniversary luncheon with me and my family. I felt so honored and appreciated! Thank you, also, for all the notes and cards that were given to me, for all the warm words shared with me, and for all the gifts that I received! This anniversary day will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you, also, to Katy
Dowell and crew, that cooked the fantastic meal that was served, and for all those that helped make the day so special! I am truly blessed to be a part of
such an amazing church family!
With Love, Susan Cooper

KODY’S QUIRKS
I remember when I first had to go to the eye doctor as a kid, it was terrible. The office was small and there was a child screaming as soon as I walked in, it didn’t make my anxiety any better. After waiting 30 minutes and having a machine blow air in my eyes, the doctor told me I needed glasses. These were the days when glasses were not cool to wear either. After picking out the ugliest pair of glasses, I asked the doctor will I see better with glasses and he said “Kody, you will see more than before.” I wanted a more detailed answer, I felt like he was dodging the question. But I got something better. I got a promise from someone I could trust and a reminder about my life. It’s the same promise God gives us every single day. We all want God to tell us all the details about our lives, we all want to know what the winning lottery numbers are or what job to take or even who to marry, but we usually get a promise that we will see more of Him if we look in the right spots. I trust the doctor because he knows what he is doing, I trust Jesus because he invented eyes and because I trust both of them, I am okay with the promise I will see more.
Having trouble seeing without my glasses has helped me understand Jesus a little more. Lately, I have been asking Him to help me see and know more about the things I don’t understand or see in my life. I am getting comfortable with the promise from God that I am going to see more, all I have to do is keep my eyes fixed on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2), because he sees who we are becoming, and wants us to become more like Him.
In Christ, Kody
