It is a matter of great honour and pride for the Department of Pharmacology, Therapeutics & Toxicology,Govt Medical College, Jammu to host & organize a prestigious National Conference and CME cum Workshopof Indian Society for Rational Pharmacotherapeutics with the theme "Bridging Clinical Medicine withRational Pharmacotherapeutics" at Govt Medical College, Jammu on 25th - 27th November, 2011.This Conference and CME cum Workshop shall place emphasis on the understanding of rational use ofmedicine by everyone who is involved in use of medicines. This conference shall provide opportunities todoctors to interact with eminent national personalities across the country and shall give everyone a guidanceand vision to teach and train UGs & PGs in rational, evidence based, interactive, integrative, patientspecific, problem based learning & help them become prescription competent and confident.It is a matter of immense satisfaction to note enthusiasm of the delegates. The Society was founded in New Delhi in 2007 by a group of about 20 pharmacologists. They were broughttogether on the initiative of Dr. Harmeet Singh Rehan, Dr. KK Sharma, Dr. CD Tripathi and Dr. YK Gupta. Todecide the future course of the functioning of the society, all the Clinical Pharmacologists of the Delhi andNCR region were invited in the office of Dr. CD Tripathi, Head, Department of Pharmacology, VardhmanMahavir Medical College, New Delhi. Dr. Uma Tekur, Dr. SK Maulik and others welcomed this initiative.Letters regarding this Society were sent to most of the Heads of the departments of Medical Institutions.Response was encouraging. It was agreed that a Society should be formed to meet at least once a year for thereading of papers on pharmacological subjects related to Basic Pharmacology, Rational Pharmacotherapeu-tics and promoting safe and cost effective use of medicines in the community. A provisional committee,consisting of the persons who pioneered the idea together with Dr. Harmeet Singh Rehan, as Secretary wasappointed and requested to draft constitution and rules related to the conduct of the activities of theSociety. Draft of the constitution was approved. Proceedings to get it registered with Registrar of theSocieties and also create a website to give wider publicity to the Society were undertaken. The societyproliferated in a very short time to more than 500 members presently from across the country. First NationalConference of the Society, was organized by Dr. R.K. Jha, Prof. & Head, Department of Pharmacology, DattaMeghe Institute of Health Sciences, Sawangi, Wardha, Maharashtra in Februray 24-26th 2010. SecondNational Conference of Society was an International Conference on Pharmacovigilance systems and RationalUse of Medicines: An Integrated Approach (26th to 28th November, 2010) was Organized by: Department ofPharmacology, Lady Hardinge Medical College & Smt. SK Hospital, New Delhi 110001, India.

The aims of the Association are to develop clinical pharmacology and therapeutics in India by:

- Promoting the utilization of clinical pharmacological services in health care delivery- Improving & harmonizing the teaching of the rational use of drugs at both UG & PG levels- Contributing with clinical pharmacological expertise to policy decisions regarding drug regulation- Organizing scientific meetings, workshops & courses in clinical pharmacology & therapeutics in India- Utilizing the skills of clinical pharmacology & therapeutics in counteracting misuse of prescription drugs- Promoting problem- and patient-oriented drug information for physicians and other health professionals- Increasing the input of clinical pharmacological skills in the clinical evaluation of drugs- Promoting high professional standards in drug discovery, development and prescribing- Promoting high ethical standards in clinical drug research

AboutDepartment of Pharmacology,Therapeutics & Toxicology, GMC, Jammu

The Department of Pharmacology, Therapeutics and Toxicology Govt. Medical College, Jammu came intoexistence in the year 1973 when the 1st Batch of Medical students of Govt. Medical College, Jammu who wereadmitted at Govt. Medical College, Srinagar as guest students were transferred to Jammu. Initially the Govt.Medical College, Jammu functioned from barracks specially created for the purpose. Dr. J.D. Sharma wasthe 1st Professor and Head of the Department. He was later joined by Dr. R.K. Raina and Dr. V. Amla asAssociate Professor and Lecturer respectively. The Department of Pharmacology shifted to its presentlocation in 1980. The postgraduate programme in Pharmacology started in 1979 and this happened to be oneof the first four M.D. programmes approved for Govt. Medical College, Jammu by the University of Jammu,started with intake of two postgraduate students per year. The programme has progressed since then and thedepartment has been upgraded to its present status of Postgraduate Department of Pharmacology & Therapeuticsand Toxicology imparting MCI recognized MD course (5 seats each year). The Department has so far produced44 Pharmacologists, many of whom occupy prominent positions within and outside the state. The departmenthas recently been granted ADRM Centre under PVPI of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. ofindia. The department feels privileged to start daily ADRM OPD for the 1st. time to facilitate voluntary ADRReporting of the cases from public domain.The department also started few community based projects in theform of Drug Information Centre/ OPD. The DIC OPD has not restricted itself only to provide informationbut has gone a step head in providing therapeutic advice/information to the needy. The basis of two OPD'si.e. DIC and ADRM is providing scientific, rational, evidence based, non-promotional information and therapeuticadvices to ensure safe drug practices in the interest of health care. In addition to above mentioned goalsthese OPD's also serve the purpose of updating medical fraternity with medical advances going across theglobe. The department has also taken a lead by starting electronic library which is the backbone of anInstitution. In addition it serves the purpose of providing scientific evidence in the form of literature to theMedical fraternity. The department also has put forward its services for any post graduate/research scholarfor advices on choosing research question, Medical/ Scientific writings and editing. The department feelssatisfied in contributing to and ensuring research with moral, ethics and human values carried with in theinstitution by conducting IEC and AIEC meetings. The future vision is to work on and strengthen post-graduate research and generate high quality/ impact factor research from the department making theDepartment of Pharmacology citable across the globe and to start the Toxicology Information Centre. Toinclude various innovative ideas in medical graduate and post graduate teaching programme and to devlopClinical Pharmacology Wing is also one of the departmental future strategies.

- To register for the conference, main conference registration form should be filled in correctly and payment to be made as Demand Draft.- The completed form & DD should be mailed to conference secretariat address- No other modes of payment are accepted, except for Spot-registration.- Demand Draft of any nationalised bank should be payable favoring “ISRPTCON-2011 Jammu”.- Forms which are incomplete or without payment will not be accepted.- Combined DD may be sent for Conference registration, pre-conference workshop & Accomodation- Demand draft o has to be ma de as total amount whle doing registration making a choice & discussing the option with offical Accommodation /Tour & Travel Commitee Incharge.- Student delegates are required to submit proof of their status from their Head of the Department- Delegates are privileged to attend all events and scientific sessions of the conference. They are entitled to receive souvenir/ kit and certificates of participation. Breakfast, lunch, high tea & dinner will also be provided to the delegates.- Associate delegates are entitled to attend inaugural function, breakfast, lunch and dinner. No souvenir/ abstract book/kits will be provided to associate delegates.- A receipt of registration fee shall be send by email and same shall be kept in kit.
