FIRST AND FINEST CANAREES OVERVIEW CANAREES: Consolidated
Abuse, Neglect, Assault Reporting Electronic Entry System. Purpose:
A system where Health Care Professionals (HCPs) electronically
submit reports on all unrestricted cases of abuse and neglect
(including child, elderly and vulnerable adult abuse) and cases of
imminent threat. The Social Work department collects weekly
CANAREES case audits to promote patient safety and collect
pertinent data for further analysis. Composition: The CANAREES team
is comprised of two civilian providers and two military officers
who are responsible for auditing, data analysis, medical staff
training and overall program management. Confidential and

FIRST AND FINEST CANAREES OVERVIEW In order to ensure HCPs are
reporting mandatory child, elder and vulnerable adult abuse the
following accountability measures have been authorized by the Legal
Department at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth: If a HCP fails to
report to Child Protective Services/Adult Protective Services
and/or submit CANAREES to the Family Advocacy Program, a patient
safety report (PSR) shall be completed. Failure to follow reporting
protocol can result in fines per reference (g) NAVMED. Confidential

FIRST AND FINEST UTILIZING CANAREES You mustCANAREES is NOT a
substitution for Child Protective Services reporting. You must CALL
CPS to make your report. In Virginia, all HCPs who suspect that a
child has been abused or neglected shall report the matter
immediately to the Child Protective Service agency where the child
resides or where the abuse or neglect is believed to have occurred.

FIRST AND FINEST QUESTIONS? The HCP is responsible for
determining imminent risk for domestic abuse cases and shall
contact the FAP DAVA (Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate) for guidance
if uncertain about determining imminent risk. The DAVA is
considered the expert in cases of domestic abuse and has the
ability to transport victims to court and shelters and to assist
with legal proceedings. The DAVA is available during the work day
at 444-2230 and after hours at 438-4180. *Please see DoD
