Being a community bank is about far more than meetingthe financial needs of families and businesses. It requiresa true passion for community service and a commitmentto servant leadership.

Passion for community is the heart of the Old Nationalapproach. We believe that to be a true community bank,we must also be an active partner in the neighborhoodswe serve – from preparing a meal for the hungry tomentoring a child and teaching a family financial skillsfor a better future.

From a business perspective, partnership means servingclients with enthusiasm and integrity. And from acommunity perspective, it means strengthening familiesand impacting lives through Foundation grants, corporate sponsorships and associate volunteerism.

Our associates are dedicated and take pride andownership in the success of every client and everycommunity they serve. Last year alone, Old Nationalassociates donated more than 93,000 volunteer hours in support of more than 2,000 organizations. Because of our associates, Old National received the 2012Employee Volunteer Program of the Year award fromVolunteerMatch for having the highest level of volunteer service in the category of small- tomedium-sized businesses.

Old National also takes an active role in growingeducational opportunities and many other vitalcommunity initiatives through company sponsorships, and through grants provided by the Old NationalFoundation. The company funded $3.5 million in grants andsponsorships in 2012 – supporting approximately 1,600 community initiatives.

He approached hissupervisors with the idea of donating it instead, which inthe end saved the charity more than a quarter milliondollars had they purchased it new. Says Old National ChiefInformation Officer John Kamin, “Dan volunteers for theUnited Way Day of Caring and is ready to help thecommunity any way he can. His recycling efforts to benefitcharities reinforce the Old National focus on socialresponsibility and environmental sustainability.”

Preparing taxes for elderly and low income individualsWhen the future of the Huntingburg Volunteer Income TaxAssistance (VITA) program was in question due to theretirement of a key person, Cathy agreed to step in and help. That was six years ago. Currently, during tax season, Cathyspends about five hours every Tuesday night volunteering toprepare taxes at no cost for elderly and low-incomeindividuals. The Huntingburg VITA program now has fourvolunteers at the local senior center and one at the GuadalupeCenter, a Hispanic outreach organization, and more than 300tax returns are filed each year. Says Cathy, “So many of theelderly and low income returns are very simple, but othercompanies charge large fees to complete them. Many timesthe fees charged are almost equal to the refund. VITA helpsensure tax refunds go back to the people who need it most.”

Leading disaster relief efforts in Southern IllinoisHerb took a leadership role in relief efforts after an F4tornado tore through Southern Illinois on February 29,claiming eight lives and injuring many. Herb immediatelymobilized Old National employees to help those in needand assist with clean up. At the same time, he workedto ensure Old National clients had access to theiraccounts, despite extensive damage at one of ourbanking centers. In December, Herb was amongcommunity leaders who broke ground on a specialmonument to honor victims who lost their lives. A true testament to leadership.”

He also serves as a reserve Deputy with theVigo County Sheriff’s Office. When not at his OldNational Insurance job or out protecting the localcommunity, Joe is often involved in the extensivetraining required of both positions. Says Joe of hisvolunteer commitment, “What is great about both ofthese activities is I can actually make a difference inpeople's lives. On more than one occasion, I have hadpeople that I have dealt with, whether it has beenassisting in digging them out of a wrecked car orhaving to arrest them, actually thank me for the help. There is no better feeling of accomplishment.”

Planning Chicktime for homeless womenWhen a volunteer opportunity that Patty was passionate about ended, she created a new one. At the VolunteerMatch.com web site, she discoveredChicktime – a nonprofit organization focused onencouraging and supporting women. During hervacation, Patty drove to Texas to learn more aboutChicktime. Upon returning she founded the ChicktimeIndy chapter, which meets one Saturday a month atthe Wheeler Mission Center for Women & Children.Chicktime volunteers gather with 20 to 30 ladies toshare in activities such as making winter scarves or totebags.
