Two jurors spread across this huge country, faced with the dauntingtask of choosing a select few pieces from almost two hundredsubmissions.

FUSION’s 2017 Fireworks exhibition showcases the best in Canadianclay and glass, and the jury was surprised to see how different theiroriginal list of choices was during the first round. An indication of thesubjective nature of the selections.

From classic wood fired utilitarian wares and ornately decoratedsurfaces to sculptural statements the jury was impressed by thediversity and skill on display.

They remarked upon the relatively small number of glass submissionscompared with clay, and how the Canadiana 150 Award led to somedelightful pieces that ranged from pop culture references tohistorical narratives.

Despite the initial differences in the jury’s selection the master list ofchosen works was compiled easily after great discussion, and therewas unanimous agreement on every award winner. Clearly, the fieldsof Canadian clay and glass are lively and thriving.
