First thing to do in a new place

• Identify the location of all the exits• Ensure the exits are not blocked and are

accessible by all especially the handicapped

• Find the escape plan for the building or the room you are

• Locate the place you gather outside • Follow the escape plan before you have to

use it to ensure it is all accessible

Second important thing to know

• Locate all the fire extinguishers near your area

• Identify the type of extinguisher

a, b, c, abc, halon, etc

• Identify the charge level of the extinguishers near you

• Get out your notebooks and draw a map of the room and the shop lab.

• Draw on your map the escape route for this end of the building if the drink machine in the hall were on fire

• Draw on your map an alternate escape route if the shop were on fire and we were in the classroom
