Specifying Location of ComponentsOptional Location of Components:Location of the inlet, outlet riser and rewind mech-anism can be varied to meet your requirements andmust be specified on your order. The drawings

below show the component locations. Unless otherwise specified, most reels will be shipped as Right Top Rewind with the inlet, outlet riserand rewind mechanism on the operator’s right.

Right Top Rewind (RT)reels have the inlet,outlet riser and rewindmechanism on the operator’s right. Hoseunwinds from the top of the reel.

Right Bottom Rewind (RB)reels have the inlet, outlet riser and rewind mechanism on the operator’s right. Hoseunwinds from the bottom of the reel.

Left Top Rewind (LT)reels have the inlet, outlet riser and rewind mechanism on the operator’s left. Hose unwinds from the top of the reel.

Left Bottom Rewind (LB)reels have the inlet, outlet riser and rewindmechanism on the operator’s left. Hoseunwinds from the bottom of the reel.

Electric rewind motors can be installed in any of the positions shown in these drawings. TheBottom Rear position is standard. The motor

is installed inside the frame on Model ESF reels,which are designed for installation in restrictedspace.

Horizontal ring and pinion gear crankrewind mechanism is the standard configuration. Optional positions includevertical and 30° above centerline, asshown in these drawings. Both areavailable at extra cost and must bespecified.

Brakes & Locks:Reels with direct crank rewind only are suppliedwith a spring tension brake, other brakes may bespecified. (See Ordering Guide & AccessoryCatalog.)

Inlet:Standard inlet is 90-degree ball bearing swiveljoint with 1" female NPT threads.

Outlet:Standard outlet is 1" male NST threads (1.375" x 8 threads per inch). Other sizes and/or threadscan be furnished and must be specified.Standard inlet, outlet riser and hub assembly are steel. These components can be supplied instainless steel, at extra cost, to meet special product handling requirements.

The standard painted steel booster hose reel isthe dependable, rugged reel that has set the stan-dard for fire service reels for more than 50 years.

The Super Booster reel is the top of the line. It weighs up to 50% less than standard boosterreels and features an all-aluminum frame anddrum, polished aluminum discs, and plated drivechain, sprocket, hub assembly, swivel joint andfasteners. No painting or finishing is required.When ordering place prefix SB before ModelNumber.

Specifications and dimensions for SuperBooster reels and standard booster hose reels areidentical except for materials and weight.

Twin Kit–for booster hose reels.To handle 3/4" I.D. or 1-1/2" I.D. hose.

Twin booster hose reels combine matched F or FFSeries reels in a single unit with a center-mountedroller and spool assembly. Hose from both reels canbe used on either side of the truck. Rugged unit frameconstruction maintains alignment and simplifiesinstallation when two reels are combined. All modelsare also available as Super Booster reel withaluminum and plated components as described onpage 4 or pages 14-15.

FH-3 Roller and Spool AssemblyNot recommended for hoses larger than 1-1/2'' I.D.

Speeds handling and reduces hose wear. Buffedstainless steel rollers resist corrosion, pitting andabrasion. Polished, chrome-plated spools and blocksadd lasting beauty to your equipment. Delrin bearingsurfaces assure quite operation and minimum wear.

Assembly can be factory-installed, when specified,or ordered for field installation on reels or otherequipment.

To order: For factory installation, specify FH-3Assembly and indicate position on reel. As acomponent, the complete model number of the reelmust be specified.

These reels have two swivel joint inlets and twooutlet risers to simultaneously handle two equallengths of hose. Hoses can be different diameters, in which case the larger hose diameter deter-mines the reel capacity. These reels are designed to handle booster hose or preconnected collapsible hose for in-plant, forestry and off–shore fire protection systems. The reel can be installed on the floor or wall.Since water is always available at the reel, the reelcan also be used for general warehouse and main-tenance operations. These reels are constructed of steel, with optional construction of aluminum or stainless steel. Reels and spools to handle up to 6" I.D. collapsible hose.Typical Installations:

Hannay Reels offer the most efficient method ofhandling large–diameter collapsible hose. Payout is fast and direct. Rewinding is considerably fasterthan reloading a hose bed, and reeling the hoseeliminates sharp bends in the hose. Drainage is also facilitated by reeling.

Location of these large reels on the apparatus is unique to each fire department and its specificneeds. A single large reel is favored by somedepartments, while others find a pair of somewhatsmaller reels to be more efficient. The illustra-tions above show frequently used installations andthey are intended only as a guide.

Hannay Reels’ standard reels for large-diame-ter collapsible hose are of all-steel construction;however, they can be constructed of all-aluminumif required for finish and weight considerations.

Reel and Spool SpecificationsDescription:Spools include discs, drum, axle and sprocket forchain. (Chain and rewind motor not supplied.) Spool assemblies include all components except the frame which is fabricated by the apparatusbuilder. Reel assemblies include discs, drum, axle, pillowblock bearings, rewind mechanism, motor and frame.Discs are either heavy gauge steel with rollededges and concentric reinforcing ribs or 3/16"thick steel with 1/2" rod welded around circum-ference (also available in aluminum). Drums areformed by reinforced tie rods with radial sup-ports. Frames are heavy duty square tubing.

Rewind options:Chain and sprocket drive mechanism powered byelectric or hydraulic rewind motors.

Electric rewind system includes 12v or 24v DCmotor with reversible leads, remote push-buttonoperating switch, solenoid and connectors. Aclutch reduction unit is standard and installed onthe reel assembly to increase torque and permitslower operating speeds. The rewind motor canbe installed inboard or outboard of the reel frame.

A variety of hydraulic rewind systems can be configured with standard hydraulic components(see hydraulic circuit information on page 17).

Reel and spool assemblies are equipped with areversible type hydraulic motor with SAE O-ringfittings. Other hydraulic system components aresupplied by truck or vehicle manufacturer.Consult factory for hydraulic motor requirements.

Brakes:A caliper disc brake system is supplied, when specified, to control reel unwinding speed (whenfree-wheeling) and/or to lock the reel while thevehicle is traveling. The brake is hydraulicallyoperated and is self-contained.Important: Hose capacity is based on the flat hose dimensions listed below, with couplings at 100 foot intervals.

Series

Single large-capacity reel installed in the hose bed area to handlelong lengths of pre-coupled hose. Hose pays out from the top of thereel so gravity assists unwinding.

Two reels installed in the hose bed. In this arrangement, the upperreel is unloaded only if necessary. Payout and rewinding of the upperreels are facilitated by the position of the lower reel. Two reels withlarger-diameter discs and narrower drums can also be installed side-by-side in the rear of the hose bed to handle approximately the sameamount of hose. This method allows a center walkway or paying outtwo lines simultaneously if required.
