Description This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to contain and/or extinguish a fire until external help from emergency services arrives. This course covers the first response (only) to fire, and does not include aggressive firefighting techniques. Who is this course for? This course is suitable for emergency response teams, fire teams or those people who provide initial response to fire emergencies in the workplace.

emergencies • Size-up principle • Responding to fires & emergencies • Extinguishing agents and methods • Operating firefighting equipment • Defensive firefighting techniques • Communicating with emergency services • Simulated practice scenarios

Award Issued Upon successful completion of the assessment requirements of this course, students will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment and wallet card.

Recertification Refreshers recommended annually.

Pre-requisites Nil Pre-entry Requirements Students must be physically capable of participating in the practical activities and demonstrate a basic level of language, literacy and numeracy. Delivery Methods The course content will be delivered in a classroom environment using PowerPoint presentations, videos, group discussions and a number of demonstration and skill building activities.

Assessment Methods Students will undertake a practical assessment simulating relevant fire scenarios. Underpinning knowledge will be assessed with a theory assessment (containing multiple-choice questions). Notes All of our courses are tailored to site policies and procedures. Appropriate clothing is to be worn when attending training including long pants, long shirts and enclosed footwear. PPE specified by the workplace is also to be worn.
