From its foundation in 1969, MTE acquired a reputation for providing fire and blast protection for North Sea oil & gas platforms. The company has built on this heritage of skills and knowledge through a programme of continuous technical improvement.

As a result, the Fire and Blast Solutions technical team at MTE today offers an unrivalled capability, not only on platforms, but also increasingly in onshore plant.

The company’s expertise is now recognised in areas as diverse as the UK or as far as Sakhalin Island on Russia’s North Pacific coast. MTE’s know-how is employed in oil and gas, in particular where working conditions are challenging due to extreme arctic climate and aggressive environments.

Fire Walls MTE fire walls are lightweight, high integrity fully welded gas tight systems manufactured from profiled steel and insulated to achieve specified fire ratings up to H120 and 120 minute jet fire, which are type approved by Lloyds Register and DNV-GL.

Blast Walls MTE blast walls are lightweight, high integrity fully welded gas tight systems manufactured from profiled steel and insulated to achieve the specified fire ratings. They are resistant to overpressures in excess of 7 barg and have been designed and supplied with fire ratings of up to H120 and 120 minute jet fire, type approved by Lloyd’s Register and DNV-GL.

Blast Relief Panels MTE Blast relief systems available fire rated or nonrated with patented precision release mechanism to ensure accurate opening pressure times. Low maintenance system available in carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium or composite.

Heat Shields MTE heat shields allow natural daylight, ventilation and visibility through the panels. The ventilated cladding system can achieve an immediate percentage reduction in incident heat flux in excess of 90%. Stainless steel panels are available in either single skin or double skin configuration to suit the client’s specific project required performance. MTE panels have been fully tested to ensure no additional background wind noise is generated.

Wind Shields MTE wind shields can achieve an immediate percentage reduction in incident wind velocity in excess of 75%. The energy dissipating design of the system means that half a metre behind the panel the percentage reduction in wind velocity increases to 86%. MTE panels have been fully tested to ensure no additional background wind noise is generated.

Louvred Panels MTE louvred panels provide an extremely rigid but low weight product which can be adapted to meet the specific environmental conditions allowing natural ventilation for equipment. Typical applications include offshore wind farm substations and offshore topside platforms.

Lightweight Blast Rated Ducts MTE fire and blast rated duct systems are designed, engineered and fabricated including full integration and structural support to meet the tough operating conditions of offshore ventilation systems. The robust construction includes structural support and tie-in details to ensure compliance with project specifications and third party approval.

Escape Routes MTE escape routes are purpose designed to provide protected personnel transit ways, evacuation routes and muster areas in the event of serious incidents involving hydrocarbon explosion and fire. Escape routes in particular can vary considerably from semi-open walkways to fully enclosed high integrity fire and blast rated tunnels.

Global Fabrication and Delivery Fire and blast rated products are manufactured within MTE’s own 7200m2 production facility at the Darlington base. This site employs state of the art equipment to handle the widest variety of work possible.

The 11000m2, 35m high covered riverside facility with three 20 tonne overhead cranes located by the River Tees, in nearby Middlesbrough, has the flexibility to assemble modules up to 33m long x 20m wide x 480 tonnes. These are loaded out on to barges for shipping to their final destination.

In 2013 Mech-Tool Korea Inc [MTK] was formed to provide a local fabrication and technical support to the Korean shipyards whilst maintaining MTE’s high standards of safety and quality. The 3000m2 new facility is evidence of MTE’s worldwide commitment to support clients at all stages of the project including conceptual front end engineering through to construction and installation where ever they may be based.

Our expertise is employed in oil and gas fixed platforms and FPSO’s but increasingly in the emerging offshore wind farms and onshore LNG plants.
