Mr. L. F. Laprairie, President, Matt Berry Mines Ltd., 1102, 347 Bay Street, Toronto, Ontario.

Dear Mr. LaPrairie:

Submitted herewith is a report on;

MATT BERRY MINES LIMITED PATRICIA MINING DIVISION

ONTARIO

Ground geophysics mapped six conductors and one conductive zone. Several of the conductors may be associated with conductive overburden. It is recommended that further geophysics be considered at this time to further define the more promising conductors. The additional geophysics should consist of detailed IP traverses on the following lines:

GENERAL

The Matt Berry Mine property is easily accessible by

proceeding north from Ignace on Highway 599 to the Mattabi Mine

road, east on the Mattabi Mine road for approximately 10 miles.

The property is located on the south side of the road. The

survey was run over the following mineral claims.

A grid system comprising of 161,355 feet was carried

out under the supervision of the Collins brothers of Timmins,

Ontario, during the latter part of November and the first week

of December. The baseline trends east-west with picket lines

trending north-south at 400 foot intervals. One hundred foot

stations were established on all lines.

GEOLOGY

The geology as published by the Ontario Department of

Mines was extended and defined by the geophysical surveys and a

compilation of the data is appended.

Several distinct mappable units were identified by the

ground geophysical surveys.

The northern one-third of tl.e property is mapped as

granite grading to granodiorite to the south.

The middle one-third of the property is mapped as

granodiorite with associated metagabbro-metadiorite xenolithic

inclusions. Only within the larger inclusions arc the original

volcanic structures and minerals preserved and these are mapped

by relatively strong linear magnetic anomalies. Remnants and

ghosts of the smaller xenoliths are mapped by weak, linear

magnetic anomalies.

The southern one-third of the property is mapped as

mafic and intermediate metavolcanics. Gneissic metavolcanic

lenses are associated with this mappable unit.

A west-north-west striking fault cuts through the

central portion of the property. A right hand movement of

approximately 2400 feet is noted along the fault trace. This

Page 5: fir; G) K n toners' F, lT - Ontario

feature is mapped by the EM survey.

MAGNETOMETER SURVEY

The ground magnetometer survey was completed under the

direct supervision of D. G. Wahl, P.Eng., during the period of

November 24 to December 4, 1970. A Barringer GM 102 Magnetometer

with a sensitivity of 10 gammas recorded the total field magnetic

intensities at fifty foot intervals on all lines. A total of

3,225 stations were occupied.

The magnetic data was reduced to a local datum and

adjusted for magnetic diurnal. The data is presented on the

enclosed maps as corrected station values and as a contoured

interpretation of these data.

The granite has a relative low uniform magnetic

susceptibility in the range of 300-500 gammas.

The granodiorite is characterized by a moderate back

ground intensity of 600 gammas and the metagabbro-metadiorite

inclusions are characterized linear magnetic anomalies exhibiting

field intensities ranging from 600-1000 gammas.

The mafic and intermediate metavolcanics are charac

terized by the low to moderate background intensity of 400 gammas.

The gneissic metavolcanic lenses within this unit are characterized

by magnetic intensities in the range of 400-600 gammas.

EM SURVEY

The electromagnetic survey was conducted by D. G. Wahl,

P.Eng., during the period from November 24 to December 4, 1970,

employing a Crone Radam VLF EM Survey Unit. This unit measured

the inclination or dip and the total field strength with a

sensitivity of l 0 of dip and 1^ field strength. The VLF station

used is located at Seattle, Washington, having a frequency of

18.6 KH2 . All observations were taken facing west. Stations

were occupied at 50 foot intervals on the established grid.

Six conductors and one conductive zone were mapped by

the EM survey. These anomalous areas will be discussed in detail

in the following section of this report.

ANOMALY l

This anomaly or conductive zone is thought to be a

fault zone. The baseline crosses this zone at station 38-fOOE

and the zone strikes roughly N 60 0 W. This zone is characterized

by high field strength values and strong dip reversals.

ANOMALY 2A and 2B

Anomaly 2A is located roughly parallel to and lying

500 feet north of the baseline on line 12+00 east. Anomaly 2B

is located roughly parallel to and lying 600 feet north of the

baseline on lino 36+00 east. These two anomalies are discussed

Page 7: fir; G) K n toners' F, lT - Ontario

b.

together because it is felt that they represent the faulted offset

of the same weak conductor which exhibits a moderate field strength

of 125 and dip reversal. These two conductors are associated

with a weak magnetic anomaly. This weak magnetic anomaly is

thought to be caused by a remnant of an almost totally digested

metagabbro-metadiorite xenolith with the granodiorite.

ANOMALY 3

This anomaly lies within the metavolcanics near the

granodiorite contact. This anomaly shows the most promising

potential in that it is associated with an area of high magnetic

relief. The moderate field strength characterized by this anomaly

should not discount the importance of this anomaly as the field

strength is a function of the depth of the causative body. A

good dip reversal is associated with this anomaly.

ANOMALY 4, 5, 6, 7

These four anomalies are thought to be caused by

conductive overburden and are not to be considered of prime

importance.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

To further define Anomaly l, 2A and 3 it is recommended

that an IP survey be run on the following lines:
