Introduction
Computers have a vibrant and rich history all there own. From the humble beginnings of
the first electro-mechanical binary programmable computer (Konrad Zeus 1936). To the
first truly portable computer (Scientific America 1975). A computers history is filled with
innovation. Yet we rarely take the time to think of what it took to get computers where
they are today.
The first programmable computer was the Z1 (Konrad Zeus 1936). The Z1 was created
by Konrad Zeus who envisioned an atomic calculator which had three basic components
control, memory and a built in calculator for the arithmetic. The Z1 had a 64-word
memory, each word contained 22 bits. The Z1 was truly extraordinary for its time.
However; the first portable computer was the IBM 5100 computer. The 5100 computer
was created in 1975 (Scientific America 1975). The 5100 series came with a built in
monitor, keyboard and data storage; no other computer of the time came close to the
capabilities of the 5100. The 5100 was also very high priced starting at $8000 dollars; it
is safe to say the 5100 wasn’t made for the average consumer.
Yet another great achievement in computer history was the UNIVAC computer. The
Univac was the first commercial computer able to pick presidential winners (John
Mauchly 1951). The Univac computer was crated in 1951 by Dr. Presper Eckert and Dr.
John Mauchly. The Univac computer used magnetic tape with a speed of 13,800
characters per second with a reading speed of 100 inches per second Presper Eckert

1951), this made the Univac one of the fasts computers of its era. The Univac computer
was truly ahead of its time.
Further more the first computer game was created in 1962 it was called Starwar. This
game took about 200 man hours to write. Starwar was the first operating system to allow
too users the ability to play simultaneously. This was a tremendous achievement it
introduced the computer to a whole new world of possibilities.
Therefore: out of this diverse and rich history computers have become what they are
today. They have become a Shining light in the darkness. Computers are a source to find
and create information. Computers are also a standing monument to our own imagination.
I can not imagine a world with out computers

The true meaning of software
When we think of software the number one thing that pops into my head is a
computer. This may frighten a few of us so let’s take it easy. Let’s ask are self’s a few
question about software. First question, what is software? Second question, what can I
use it for? Third question, how much does it cost? These Three questions are the building
blocks to further understanding the concept of software. These three questions are a brief
example of Blooms taxonomy (Benjamin Bloom 1956).
First of all let’s answer the question what is Software? The English dictionary
defines software as programs and applications for a computer: programs and applications
that can be run on a computer system (Encarta 2009). Basically software is a language
created by engineers to make a computer perform certain functions. In other words
software is a roadmap of code and numbers that tell the computer what to do.
Secondly let’s answer the second, question what can I use it for? When it comes to
education the sky is the limit. There thousands of software available to help kids and
adults alike. Let’s take for instant the software called Kidware. Kidware is software that
can be used on kindergarten students to help them better understands a verity of concepts
and skills (Kidware) .I find Kidware to be amazing software especially in the subject of
language. Kidware uses a fun approach to letters in the form of word game children get to
learn in an abstract concept.

Furthermore let’s look at the Third question, how much does it cost? This is one of the
most important questions cost. Different software’s range in price. Some of the
educational software can go as far as hundreds of dollars. This is yet other reason why I
enjoy Kidware. Kidware base price is $24.95(kideware.com). Finally once you take the
stress out of software it becomes an essential tool. Especially once we took into account
Blooms taxonomy and addressed or own fears it becomes a relatively easy concept.

History of Computers
Computers have a vibrant and rich history all there own. From there humble
beginnings of the Z1 computer; to the first available consumer computer. Its history is
filled with innovation. Yet out of this technology the future would not be what it is today.
The first freely programmable computer was the Z1. The Z1 was invented in 1936 by
Konrad Zeus. Konrad envisioned an atomic calculator which has three basic components
control, memory and a calculator for the arithmetic. The Z1 was extraordinary because it
was the first binary computer.
The world’s first portable computer was the IBM 5100 computer. The 5100 computer
was created in 1975. The 5100 series came with a built-in monitor, keyboard, and data
storage; no other computer of the time came close to the capabilities of the 5100. The
5100 was very high priced from $8000 to 20000 dollars. It was safe to say the 5100
wasn’t made for the average person.
Further more computers have become a vital aspect in our dally life. From a humble
binary beginning to a fully integrated system computers are today’s source for
information. Computers today are more affordable and user friendly than ever before. I
could not picture a world with out them.

There are people who don't like capitalism, and people who don't like PCs. But there's no-one that doesn’t like Microsoft!!
Bill Gates
For instance, if you want to do a video
presentation you have many programs to
choose from. Two of my fevered programs
are Power Point from Microsoft and Prezi
which is a web based program. Both of
these programs have a great deal to offer.

Choosing the wrong software can be financially and time consuming.
Don’t be fooled by the price tag on the

We are not even close to finishing the basic dream of what the PC can be!!Bill gates
There are many advantages on using the right
software. When we think about the right software
one tends to feel overwhelmed by all the mass
produced software on the market. When choosing
any software you first have to know what you
expect to get out of it.
Power Point!!
Take a closer look at Power Point from
Microsoft. The dictionary defines Power Point as
a product that provides users with an interface to
design multimedia slides that are displayed on a
projection system or personal computer.
Future Belongs to those that prepare for it!!Malcolm X
Prezi!!
Let’s take a closer look at Prezi. Prezi is a cloud
based presentation program that opens up a whole
new world between whiteboards and slides (Prezi).
In other words Prezi is completely web based. Prezi
also gives you the ability to create and share
dynamic presentations with others. Exciting audio
and visual capabilities help you tell a smooth and
cinematic story that is easy to create. Prezi also has
tools for video and photo editing, which give
transitions a crisp look and feel.

History of Computers
The history of computers is full of innovation. When we see a computer we rarely
think of what it took to get to this level. We use computers through out our dally life.
From predicting our president to playing video games computers are vital. It’s hard to
imagine a time with out computers.
In 1951 the first commercial computer able to pick presidential winners was invented.
This computer was called the Univac computer. The Univac was created by Dr. Presper
Eckert and Dr. John Mauchly. The Univac computer used magnetic tape with a speed of
12,800 characters per second with a read-in speed of 100 inches per second; this was
amazing in its time.
The first computer game was invented in 1962. The game was called Star war. This
game took about 200 man hours to write. Star war used the first operating system to
allow two users at the same time. This was a tremendous achievement. Think of it thanks
to star war now we have games that use up to six people simultaneously.
Today the world is full of computers. This influence is the key to our daily life. I can
not imagine a day with out my laptop or play station etc. It’s fascinating to me to think of
a time when we did not have the convenience of a computer.
