The campus structures are inspired by the foundation’s local roots and global mission. The Goal of the interior design team of which I was a part, was to design a workplace that enables staff to do their best work in an open and collaborative environment. P R E T T Y T O X I C - I N D U S T R I A L S O I L T R E A T M E N T F A C I L I T YColumbia University, Advanced Studio IV, Professor Marc TsurumakiThe historically productive industrial coastline of New York Harbor has left New York City with two EPA designated Superfund sites. Currently the extremely toxic soil is dredged and trucked to a facility in Texas for long term storage. This proposed industrial soil remediation facility in Red Hook, Brooklyn would repair the coastline sludge locally through innovative and experimental techniques while simultaneously opening the coastline to the public through a park and educational facility. It is a small business and research incubator model that could be applied towards the reparation of industrial coastlines everywhere.

S L U M P S C A P EColumbia University, Professors Brigette Borders, Mark BearakThis team project combined digital fabrication milling techniques with analogue concrete casting and welding. The CNC mill was utilized to create a re-usable, fl exible silicone mold which was housed within a jig that allowed for manipulation in the z-axis while holding true the x and y axes. This approach allowed for parametric production of elements that can either aggregate into a continuous topography or can be deployed as small furniture groupings.

W E A V E W A L LColumbia University, Advanced Curtain Wall, Professor Bob Heintges with Dan VosThe objective of this course was to interpret a selected artwork as a unitized curtain wall. The painting by Brice Marden inspired a layered system in which a simple grid can be read through a surface of variable pattern, density and color. A woven screen of 1/4” gauge braided copper wire is held off 30” from the glazing layer by a blued steel frame. The wires are woven through the steel frame into a shading screen of variable pattern and density. Color variability will occur as the copper patinas, affected by the density of the weave.
