marketing and product development. Its aim is to help the hospitality and tourism industries improve service

experiences and increase customer value. Starting from a small-scale service laboratory setting, the project will evolve into a hotel room where customers can modify

the atmospherics, and finally to tourist attractions.

Haaga-Helia students took part in Slush, the most important start-up event in the world. Volunteering in various teams, the students learned about international customer service, team-work and leadership and got to network. All together 200 students from various study fields worked at the event in 2015.

SLUSHVARIOUS STUDY PROGRAMMESOngoing

Haaga-Helia has developed the new Aviation Business Management Degree Programme, to begin in January 2017, in cooperation with Finnair. The programme provides the capabilities to work in sales, customer service and other expert positions in the aviation service chain – and also as an entrepreneur. Haaga-Helia has had the honour of enhancing the sales and customer service skills of the cabin crew of Finnair’s new Airbus 350 planes for Asian routes.

– In addition to capable training, partner cooperation gives us opportunities to participate in various projects. For example, we will gain more international visibility in Thematic University-Business Forum 2016, where we will have an expert presence.

Haaga-Helia joined forces with McDonald’s to customise a training programme for the managers of the restaurant chain. The first group of students completed their studies in 2015 after an intensive period of studies for 1,5 years alongside work.

VOCATIONAL TEACHER EDUCATION

IT ALL STARTS WITH THE TEACHEROne key success factor for the Finnish education are the teachers. Finnish teachers are highly respected and extensively trained.

HAAGA-HELIA OFFERS TAILOR-MADE vocational teacher training packages and facilitate the adoption and development of new operating practices.

Vocational teacher education is meant for both practicing teachers and other applicants who intend to work as qualified teachers.

Haaga-Helia also offers consultation in the formulation of curricula, the utilization of new teaching methods as well as the development of quality systems.

The China-Finland Center of Excellence in Vocational Education in Shanghai promotes and develops vocational education in China. Initiated in 2013 the collaboration involves education experts and officials from both Finland and China. Center is supported by state-level cooperation between the two countries.

A pilot training programme in vocational teacher training was successfully completed in the fall of 2015. In the opening ceremony the first 57 Chinese vocational teachers were awarded with certificates of achievement.

SHANGHAI, CHINA VOCATIONAL TEACHER EDUCATION2013–2015

Haaga-Helia School of Vocational Teacher Education and Colombia’s state owned vocational education provider SENA combined forces to deliver vocational teacher education in Bogota, Colombia in 2014–2016.

The goal of the training was to develop the Colombian vocational training. The programme was consistent with the objectives and content of Finnish teacher education.

The 60-credit programme included six week-long contact periods in Bogota, supported by intensive e-learning and guidance. A group of 15 motivated vocational teachers took part in this pioneering project and received their certificates in 2016.

The studies comprise six modules, which include e.g. learning assignments related to learning, competence assessment and instruction as well as practical teaching training.

COLOMBIAVOCATIONAL TEACHER EDUCATION2014–2016

PROFESSIONALS WITH A TRULY

INTERNATIONAL MINDSETHaaga-Helia UAS provides students with the skills and the mindset to succeed in the globalized world.

OUR STUDY PROGRAMMES offer a springboard to a career in the global business world. The graduates have broad-based knowledge, skills and competencies they can apply in various situations and industries. Cooperation with international companies is an integral part of the studies. This project-based approach requires self-motivation and fosters independent working skills and critical thinking.

Guangzhou Polytechnic of Sports signed a contract with Sport Business School (part of Haaga-Helia) to offer a higher education degree programme in Sport Management and Marketing. Altogether 75 students will take part in the three-year progamme. The first two years of the studies will be taken in China and the third year in Finland. Since most of the study material is produced during the course, only the latest information is applied.

GUANGZHOU, CHINASPORTS AND LEISURE MANAGEMENT2015–2020

In January 2016, eighteen teachers from the Institute of Tourism Studies started a modular studies in Culinary Management. The programme is for professionals wishing to complement their education and acquire new knowledge, but it also recognizes their prior experiences. The programme trains the students in different Culinary and Hospitality Management competences through modules designed to be taught during intensive weeks, mixed with the student’s own personal distance work.

MALTAHOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT2016

Haaga-Helia and Mondragon-Uco have joined forces to offer an International Business programme in Queretaro, Mexico. International immersion programmes in Finland, Brazil and China constitute part of the studies for the four-year Bachelor programme.
