THEORY& IMPORTANCE :

This experiment is carried out to check the propergrinding of cement. The cement hich is produced !" anindustr" is checked for its #ua$it"% that either it is good forcertain t"pe of construction or it doesn&t posses that muchstrength. 'or examp$e% for R(( and other hea)" $oad!earing structures such as !ridges it is essentia$ that thecement hich is !eing used in the concrete shou$d ha)ethe a!i$it" to pro)ide the re#uired strength% hi$e in theP(( structures it is not so much critica$.

The a!i$it" to pro)ide strength of a certain t"pe of

cement is checked !" finding the fineness of that cement%!ecause the fineness of cement is responsi!$e for the rateof h"dration and hence the rate of gain of strength anda$so the rate of e)o$ution of heat.

If the cement is fine then greater is its cohisi)eness%hich is the propert"% re#uired in the concrete !ecause itgi)es compactness to the concrete. *sua$$" cement $oses10+ of its strength ithin one month of its manufacturing.

TYPES OF SEIVES:

There are different t"pes of sie)es such as , 10% ,100%, -00%, 00 etc. the num!er of the sie)e indicates thenum!er of ho$ed present in a $inear inch of that sie)e. 'orfinding the fineness of /et or r" cement fo$$o ingnum!er sie)e is recommended !" 2TM.

Take the trip$e !eam !a$ance and ad5ust the readingof the !a$ance to 6ero.Take a pan and note its eight.Put some cement in the pan p$aced on the !a$ance%so that the eight of cement !ecomes 100 grams.This i$$ !e eight 1 of the cement.Put the cement in the sie)e carefu$$" and c$ose thesie)e tight$".2tart shaking the sie)e hori6onta$$"7 keep on shakingthe sie)e for 10 to 18 minutes regu$ar$".

fter 18 minutes take the residue $eft in the sie)e% putit in a pre9 eighed p$ate and note the eight - ofthe residue ith the he$p of trip$e !eam !a$ance.Then !" using the fo$$o ing formu$a ca$cu$ate thepercentage fineness of cement:
