I started drawing as a smallchild and have had a burningpassion for creating art allmy life. It is a passion thathas to come out, and when Ipaint, seeing the paintingtake life is what drives me.

Being born and raised inAlaska has given me a lovefor the outdoors that I try toexpress in my artwork. I paintin Oils and Acrylics, and lovePen & Ink also. My paintingsare of Alaska, its Scenery,Wildlife, People and Culture.I am a realist painter with atouch of impressionism. Ipaint in Acrylics when I wantfine detailed paintings. I useoils for a moreimpressionistic painting. Ipaint on Canvas or GessoedHardboard.

Working very closely withnature “en plein air” (onlocation), has led to agreater appreciation to thenatural world around us.Light is the motivating factor;without it there would benothing. To capture the lightand how it makes the colorsvibrate and tell a story is mygoal when I paint. Workingon location forces me to bein touch with the moment,allowing me time only to workfast and loose, capturing theemotions and light of themoment. When I create alarger more detailed majorwork in my studio, I use theplein air paintings asreference, so I can match theemotions evoked at the time Ipainted them. All paintingsare a “moment in time”; Istrive to make my paintingsmake the viewer stop andlinger in that moment and its

beauty.

I am proud to sell mypaintings at Stephan Fine ArtGallery in Anchorage. I sellmy prints off my website:www.kurtjacobson.com . I wasselected as the official artistfor both the 2006 and 2008Alaska Railroad Print andPoster. Also won “PeoplesChoice” award for mypainting “Potter Marsh” in theArt For Alaska State Parks2007 competition. I amcurrently the President of theAlaska Artists Guild.
