“Why don’t you just grow up?”

Immaturity is not an endearing characteristic. But in God’s kingdom, childlikeness truly is!

At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:1–4

It is not an insult to be called a child in the kingdom of God:

The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and

if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ.

Romans 8:16–17

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.

Paul considered his student and protégé Timothy his “child.” Those of us who teach God’s people often feel similar affection and godly pride in our students.

Have you have taught for many years? Or for a few months? Either way, your students are your “Timothys.” Even better, though, God counts you as his own child by faith!

The title “teacher”is a badge of honor,

the title “child of God” much more so!

What a privilege!

Teachers touch eternity as we share the Good News of forgiveness and life—eternal life—in Jesus’ name!

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
