PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) is an international study which began in 2000 since 2000 over 70 countries and economies have participated

aims to evaluate education systems worldwide by testing knowledge and skills of 15-year-old students in participating countries

assesses how far students (near the end of compulsory education) have acquired some of the knowledge and skills that are essential for full participation in society

PISA goes beyond school curriculum - the domains are covered not merely in terms of mastery of the school curriculum, but in terms of important knowledge and skills needed in adult life

assessment conducted every 3-year 3 domains: reading, maths and science 2012: focus on mathematics + new domain: financial literacy

Why FL in PISA 2012?

FL generally recognized as one of the key competencies relevant not only for the future but also for young age OECD 2005 recommendation: FE should start at school level projects/programmes should be accompanied by a baseline survey and be

further monitored (development and outcomes) but currently only a limited data on FL level of students with no

international comparability

PISA 2012 Financial Literacy Assessment Framework FL definition Financial literacy is knowledge and understanding of financial concepts,

and the skills, motivation and confidence to apply such knowledge and understanding in order to make effective decisions across a range of financial contexts, to improve the financial well-being of individuals and society, and to enable participation in economic life.
