Points to Note for Filling-in Family Income When Submitting Online Application

AttentionIf the applicant fails to report the required information in the application form or provide the requiredsupporting document at the time of application, and the information/supporting document is onlyreported/provided upon the Student Finance Office’s enquiry, this would be treated as a misrepresentationand/or omission in the application. You must ensure that you have filled in each and every item of informationin the appropriate parts accurately when submitting the Application Form and provide all documentaryproofs.
If you have omitted or misrepresented information in your application form, SFO has the right to reject your application.

Family income required to be reported
You must report the family income of the following family members for the period 1.4.2019 – 31.3.2020
Required Supporting Documents
Examples of income proofs include
• Salary statement• Employer’s Return of Remuneration and Pensions [IR56B] • Notification by an employer of an employee who is about
to cease to be employed [IR56F] • Return of payroll emoluments for civil servant [IR56C] • Notification of remuneration paid to persons other than
employees [IR56M]
Self-written Income Statement or Profit & Loss Account if you or your parent(s)/spouse is/are self-employed or operating your/his/her own business.
Points to Note for Reporting Family Income
Even if family member(s) have changed job(s)/ income recently (e.g. unemployment, job changes),
You are still required to report ALL the jobs and income for the period 1.4.2019 –31.3.2020.
You may provide the updated situation in Step 12 “Additional Information” to state in details of the unemployment period and submit relevant supporting documents.
• You must annual income into the family income.• Annual income means ALL income (in regardless of part time, casual work,
self-employed and/full time ) for the assessment period between 1.4.2019 and 31.3.2020.
• “Income" of each family member means his/her total income, including• leave pay, bonuses, cash awards, commission, tips, allowances, payment in lieu
of notice and income earned from part-time employment.• Allowances include overtime work allowances, living allowances, housing or
rent allowances, travel allowances, food allowances, and education allowances, etc.
You must report the employment status of your family member for the period 1.4.2019 and 31.3.2020. Please do NOT report current situation here.
How to Report Family IncomeIn Employment
If your family member has performed more than one job for the period 1.4.2019 and 31.3.2020, please make reference to this example and list out all the jobs in point form clearly .
• Annual income means ALL income (in regardless of part time, casual work, self-employed and/full time ) for the assessment period between 1.4.2019 and 31.3.2020.
• “Income" of each family member means his/her total income, including
• leave pay, bonuses, cash awards, commission, tips, allowances, payment in lieu of notice and income earned from part-time employment.
• Allowances include overtime work allowances, living allowances, housing or rent allowances, travel allowances, food allowances, and education allowances, etc.
(Applicable to divorced person) Enter the total annual alimony received during the 2019-20 financial year
How to Report Family Income Self-employed
If you family member is self employed for the period 1.4.2019 –31.3.2020, such as hawking, driving taxis / minibuses, and fees for services rendered, etc. please make reference to this example and list out the details clearly.
Enter the total annual rent received during the 2019-20 financial year from property, land, carpark, vehicle andvessel owned by family members. Enter the total annual income from subletting the property occupied by thefamily
For self-employed persons (i) If income proof is not available, you may list in writing the various incomes or prepare on yourown a Profit and Loss account or an income statement (samples are at Appendix V of Part III) forthe SFO‟s consideration.(ii) Notification of remuneration paid to persons other than employees [IR56M].
How to Report Family Income - Contributions
Enter the total annual amount of contributions received (e.g. family expenses / living expenses / fees paid for family member) for the period 1.4.2019 and 31.3.2020 financial year from any other person(s) (such as those reported in Step 4 as “Other Family Members”) and relatives or friends.
How to Report Family IncomeRetired
Enter the total annual sum of pension received in the 2019-20 financial year by each member of the family who has retired, with the exception of once-and-for-all lump sum gratuities on retirement. If there are any other incomes received during the 2019-20 financial year, please specify and enter the amount.
Enter your family member’s‟ once-and-for-all lump sum gratuity received upon retirement and the pensions that they now receive each month.

Step 12:Additional Information
If you and /or your family member(s) have encounter recent changes/ the following situations, please state clearly in step 12 “additional information”:
Assets/income proof that are unavailable at the moment• Father/mother deceased (please provide death certificate)• Parents divorced (please provide details of the divorcement)• Current employment situation (please provide relevant proof such as pay slips)• Sudden change of family situation
