Multiple Voices: Layers

Whenasecondvoicewithadifferentrhythmisrequiredwithinameasure,liketheeighthnotesshowninredbelow,enterthenotesinanewlayer.Eachlayerisarhythmicallyindependentvoice.Simplychoosethenewlayerandenterasyouwouldnormally.

Always use layers 1 and 2 first when notating multiple voices. Use layer1 for the higher voice. If there are three or four voices in a single staff, then use layers 3 and 4 as needed.

To copy measure settings, a full measure stack must be selected.

Finale uses the filter while copying whenever Use Filter is checked under the Edit menu.

This method transposes the music diatonically within the key signature. To change the key, use the Selection tool context menu or the Key Signature tool. To configure a transposing staff, use the Staff tool.

A. Toaddmeasures To add measures at the end of the score:

B. Toinsertmeasures To insert new empty measures anywhere in the score:

1 Selectameasure.(Insertedmeasureswillappearbeforethisone.)

2 FromtheEditmenu,chooseInsert Measure Stack.

4 ClickOK.

UsetheStaff tool toeasilyinsert,delete,oreditstaves.WhenyouclicktheStafftool,theStaffmenuappearsatthetopofyourscreen.ThefollowinginstructionsassumetheStafftoolisselected.

To enable or disable Human Playback

1 ClicktheFrom the MIDI/Audiomenu,chooseHuman Playbackandthenselectthedesiredstyle.

Choose MIDI/Audio menu > Human Playback > Jazz to activate the Swing option in the expanded Playback Controls.
