All practice is based on philosophy and theory.

Copyright @ 2017. All rights reserved.14

Thinking deeply about what we accomplish through kinship care and aboutwhy we think particular practices are more relevant than others is afundamental responsibility of all kinship care practitioners.

Clarifying the language of philosophy, theory and value facilitatesconversations about what we think we know, what we need to know andhow we came to those conclusions.

What is complexity? A description of the result of the interconnectedness of many, diverse, nonstandard elements interacting in ways that arenon-linear, potentially changing in ways that are notamendable to analysis through deconstruction into separateparts.

What is the opposite of complexity? A mechanical view where we take control and watch whathappens. There is no learning or adaptability. We can easilybreak into parts and address piecemeal.
