Development and Validation of a

Worktext in Advanced Statistics

Statement of the Problem

1. What is the validity of the developed worktext terms of:

a. goals/objectives,b. sub-topics,c. activities, andd. evaluative exercise?

2. What is the level of acceptability of the worktext in terms of:

a. objectives,b. content organization,c. procedure and methodology,d. usefulness,e. effectiveness,f. illustrations/diagrams, andg. evaluative exercise?

Scope and Delimitations The topics included in the worktext are based from the course outline given by DepEd.

Experts in the field of statistics ascertained its content validity.

Statistics teachers in Juan G. Macaraeg National High Shool, Tayug National High School, Mangaldan National High School and Urdaneta City National High School for teacher acceptability of the worktext, while Special Science Class of JGMNHS students were utilized for students’ acceptability.

Data Gathering Procedure

PLAN PHASE

1.The course outline in Advanced Statistics served as the basis in identifying the topics in the worktext.2. Included the sub-topics and objectives to be attained.3. Determined the sequence of the sub-topics and used technical details

of presentation of the worktext

DEVELOP PHASE

1. Following a format, each chapter of the worktext consisted the objectives, developmental activities, test yourself and evaluative exercises

2. After completing the first draft of the worktext, it was presented to the adviser and critic reader.

3. The second draft was subjected to the judgment of the panel members.

VALIDATE PHASE

Content validity by five statistics experts. Each chapter is considered valid if all aspects included in the checklist meet the required minimum rating of 2.60 with an interpretation of validLevel of acceptability by six statistics teacher-evaluators. The worktext is considered acceptable if all aspects included in the worktext meet the minimum rating of 2.60.

Content Validity

Level of Acceptability

Summary of FindingsContent Validity

The content validity of each chapter of the developed worktext to the expert-respondents, with respect to the objectives, sub-topics, activities, and evaluative exercises ranges from highly valid to very highly valid. The grand mean of the evaluators’ rating is equivalent to 4.03 which describe the worktext as “Highly Valid”.

Level of AcceptabilityThe level of acceptability of each chapter of

the developed worktext to the teacher evaluators, with respect to the objectives, content organizations, procedure and methodology, usefulness, effectiveness, illustrations/drawings/ diagrams, and evaluative exercises is very high. The grand mean of the evaluators’ rating is 4.63 which describe the worktext as “Very Highly Acceptable”.

Level of Acceptability Based on the questionnaire answered by students, the level of acceptability of each chapter of the developed worktext with regards to the objectives, content organizations, procedure and methodology, usefulness, effectiveness, illustrations/ drawings/diagrams, and evaluative exercises is very high. The grand mean of the evaluators’ rating is 4.70 which describe the worktext as “Very Highly Acceptable”.

ConclusionsThe chapters in the developed worktext are highly valid.

The chapters in the developed worktext are very highly acceptable. In general, teachers and students recognized the appropriateness of the material.

Recommendations

Teachers should be encouraged to develop instructional materials like the worktext, especially on subjects where most students find difficulty.

Recommendations

Having found the validity is high and acceptability of the worktext is very high, the researcher strongly recommends the use of the worktext.

Recommendations The development of learning

worktext in the other disciplines is recommended with strict compliance on the different steps and processes in worktext preparation, in order to achieve the desired results.

Recommendations

Further studies along this line be conducted in other institutions in the province are recommended on other topics and/or subjects.
