Foci Building
The foci in math is the central point from which lines are drawn from to create a hyperbola or an ellipse.However, the term “foci” also has the definition of being any centers of attention or activities in a space orcommunity. When designing this space, the Vikings design group took both into consideration. In the overallform of the building, we wanted to not only direct attention in the building towards the beautiful landscape nextdoor, but also create an enclosed and intimate space that invited community and interaction with guests.Throughout history, community spaces in towns and cities have been popular with civilizations for leisure,business, and growth in each. The Foci building is no exception. An open “focus” as our lobby creates an openatmosphere that blends with the outdoor beauty of the park. This and the open community space in betweenthe building and focal lobby provide an excellent transition from an outdoor leisure space to an indoor officespace. The tall concourse in the center of the main building, with storefront windows surrounding the entireexterior, also invites nature into the structure and creates a panoramic view on each floor of the outside world.Overall, the space is meant to create a social and playful atmosphere blending the indoors and outdoors intoone community space where people can work and play together.
