Town of the Blue Mountains, Thornbury, ON 2003 – 2014 Fortified collaboration across the municipality, working closely as a supporter and resource for all

community volunteer organizations, churches, environmental groups, sports organizations, and businesses, continually advocating the Town as a progressive 4 season community offering a healthy and supportive lifestyle complemented by a high influx of seasonal tourists.

MAYOR Worked in collaboration with a 7-person Council and 100 municipal staff to optimize the Town’s

service capability and offerings while maintaining prudent administration of finances and creating a stimulating work environment.

Sourced, researched and advised on grant and other capital project funding applications positioning the Town for infrastructure growth and upgrades, stemming the need for significant tax increases across the 11,000 voting population. Awarded >$23 million in infrastructure grants through lobbying and application fulfilment.

Notable funding improvements include: $7 million Town Hall replacement and expansion; $5.9 million for 3 waste water servicing and road extensions; and a $1.8 million bridge rehabilitation.

Played the key leadership role after a tornado struck the municipality destroying homes and hundreds of acres of apple orchards, a prime revenue generator. Interacted with the Government of Ontario Emergency Management Team to create a swift

action plan to minimize the impact and devastation on the community. Strengthened working relationships with Provincial Government and Federal Government

officials to successfully secure additional short term and long term funding. Served as the prime media person speaking on behalf of the municipal government and citizens.

Steered the Town to vote on a pioneering initiative to ban the use of bottled water in municipal buildings later adopted by AMO and FCM.

Town of the Blue Mountains, MAYOR……continued Gained trust and respect from First Nation band leaders, actively supporting and integrating their

cultural norms into the Town’s policies and practices. Created and encouraged consensus and garnered support with First Nations Band Leaders to

preserve the Plater Martin archaeological site – Petun Native Village. Acted with tact, integrity and diplomacy as the Town’s leading spokesperson interacting with print,

TV and radio media from across Canada and the US after a fatal winter accident involving 5 teenagers. Assumed crisis management lead to actively and effectively address the tragedy, serving as the

conduit between family members and media while mentoring distraught teens, creating an informative environment where respect and trust for the bereaved was acknowledged.

Recognized as an environmental and community ambassador, actively portraying a commitment to preserve park and natural heritage lands for today and future generations.

Championed respect in the workplace, minimizing verbal and written abuse from the public to staff or Council members personally interacting with the concerned citizens to amicably resolve their issues.

Represented the Town on the Grey County Council protecting the Town’s concerns while working with regional staff and municipal peers to make business decisions on multi-million capital projects and other initiatives across the agricultural, rural and urban County with 96,500 residents.
