Final Report of the Conference

The Consortium consisting in the Romanian Society of Physical and Rehabilitation

Medicine & Balneoclimatology (RSPRMB), the Romanian Association of Balneology (RAB),

the Romanian Spinal Cord Society (RoSCoS) and the Romanian Society of

Neurorehabilitation (RoSNeRa), affiliated to the Romanian Medical Association (RMA),

together with the "Ovidius" University, the Emergency County Clinical Hospital "Sf. Apostol

Andrei" – from Constanta – and the Balneal and Rehabilitation Sanatorium in Techirghiol

(BRST), under the academic auspices of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy ”Carol

Davila” (UMPCD), in Bucharest – have organized, at the “Ovidius” University from

Constanta, between the 3rd and 5th of September, and at the BRST, on September 5th,

2017, the National Interdisciplinary Conference with International Visibility:

“Comprehensive approaches in pain issues and in spinal cord pathology in the context of

the International Day of Spinal Cord Injury (SCI Day)”

Thematic areas/ topics :

- Inter/multidisciplinarity in the approach of algo-genic pathologies: historical, conceptual and

taxonomic fundamentals

- Complex management in algo-dysfunctional musculoskeletal pathology

- Complex management in neurological/ neurosurgical and/or psychogenic algo-dysfunctional

pathology

- Complex management in dismetabolic and/ or oncological algo-dysfunctional pathology

- Pain approaches through Physical/ Kineto-Therapeutical means in Balneology and Rehabilitation

- Complex management in algo-dysfunctional pathology secondary to spinal cord injury

The event began, according to the schedule settled by the organizers, on September 3, 2017 at 11.00

(preceded by the registration of participants from 8.00-11.00) with the festive opening, at which were present

and make short speeches the Honor Co-Presidents of the Conference: Prof. Univ. Sorin Rugina MD PhD -

Rector of "Ovidius" University of Constanta and Acad. Prof. Univ. Constantin Ionescu-Tirgoviste MD PhD-

President of the Romanian Medical Association, who sent a video message greeting and supporting the

event, Co-Presidents of the conference: Prof. Univ. Gelu Onose MD, PhD - Executive President of Honor of

RSPRMB, "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, CSIII Biologist Constantin Munteanu PhD -

The scientific works developed in accordance with the program established by the

scientific and organization committees, approved by the presidents of the conference and posted on

More than 120 specialists participated, with 42 papers accepted by the scientific

committee, of which 8 posters and 34 oral presentation. It should be noted that 3 of the posters sent

for evaluation at the conference, also participate in the international poster contest dedicated to the

spinal cord injury prevention, organized by ISCoS.

During the conference were held 4 symposia of profile industry, that took place during coffee

/ tea breaks, separate from the scientific conference program.

For the evaluation of the posters, the Poster Evaluation Committee was established, the

components of which were designated by the Scientific and Organizing Committees and announced

The conference included, on the third day of the event, 3 actions dedicated to marking the International

Spinal Cord Injury Day - World SCI Day - established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the

International Society of Spinal Cord (ISCoS) since last year and set for September 5th of each year.

Thus, on September 5, 2017 took place:

- A scientific session with specialized papers with mainly profile theme;

- An interactive workshop - Intermittent catheterization - demonstrations on the mannequin, sustained by

Prof. Univ. Gelu Onose MD, PhD and Mrs. Irina Vasile, representative of Pharma Telnet - that provided the

necessary material support;

The apogee of the international spinal cord injury day - World SCI Day - took place at the Balneal and

Recovery Sanatorium of Techirghiol (BRST) via Skype, live, qvadruplex, between Techirghiol - Romania,

Maison d'Accueil Spécialisée «les Rantzau» Lorquin from France, Maison Oberkirch - Strasbourg from France

and Hammam Chellala Guelmadin Algeria. During the event were held brief speeches by Prof. univ. Gelu

Onose MD, PhD, Anne Laure Henry - Adjunct Director of EPSOLOR from France, Jully Jean-Pierre Lorquin's

Mayor from France, Olga OREDA General Manager of Foyer d'Accueil Médicalisé et Maison d'Accueil

Spécialisée Oberkirch, Strasbourg, and Dr. Ahmed Belaiter, Hammam Chellala Guelma - Algeria.

At the festivities held in Balneal and Recovery Sanatorium of Techirghiol from Romania. in the presence of

the mayor’s representative, the Romanian organizers handed Mrs. Anne Laure Henry, as a representative of the

Lorquin community from France, and also to the representative of Techirghiol City Hall, homage plaques

dedicated to mark the international day of spinal cord injury - World SCI Day, highlighting in this way an

excellent bilateral collaboration in the preparation of the event.

In addition, the Co-President of the Conference, Assoc. Prof. Dan Iliescu MD, PhD - Dean of the Faculty of

Medicine from "Ovidius" University, Constanta, on behalf of the University and of the Rector of "Ovidius"

University from Constanta - Prof. Univ. Sorin Rugina MD, PhD – Co-President of Honor of the Conference,

awarded the diploma and the prize medal dedicated to the Ovidius International Year - commemorating the

celebration of 2000 years since the death of the great Romanian poet Publius Ovidius Naso - to Mrs. Anne

Laure Henry, to the Mayor of Lorquin from France and the Co-President of the conference Prof. univ. Gelu

Onose MD, PhD.

The key features, of the conference, from the academic and contextual point of view, were

the interdisciplinarity/ multidisciplinarity as well as the multimodal and novelty aspects of both the

scientific papers presented and the inclusion of the World SCI Day - exactly on the date set by the

ISCoS and the WHO.

In conclusion, we can consider the Conference to be a great success and we believe that

we have all the premises to hope that it will become an annual, traditionally manifestation that will

keep the successful pattern of the event that has been presented above.
