What does a successful team look like?

When working as a team it is important to be aware of

individual ability,believe you can attain the goals

you set, be aware of your outside influencers,be able

to adapt to change and engage in effective

communication on and off the field.

How do we achieve this within JCI?

Realize ability in anything you do is attainable.Set goals.

How?

It is nearly impossible to achieve your goals with self-doubt.To determine attainable goals:

• Conduct a self-appraisal of your capabilities• Set personal goals• Commit

Theory: People’s beliefs in their efficacy influence the types of anticipatory scenarios and dwell on the many things that can go wrong(Bandura, 1995).

* A higher self efficacy = higher output = improved learning and development

Learn how to adapt to outside influencers.

When working as a team, many outside influencers can affect our indivudal and team performance (Bandura, 1993).

Outside influencers:• “Face-to-face” infuencers (microsystem) Ex: Co-workers,internal customers, family, friends

• Structures that influence the microsystem (ExoSystem) - Ex:Corporate, Government

• Values, attitudes, policies (Macro-system) Ex: corporate values, leadership development module

•Links between systems (Mesosystem) Ex: Board of directors, advisory boards, committee

Communication is key. Winning is secondary.

Why?

When working as a team communication is essential. Participation of every member is essential. Do not DOMINATE.

Avoid the Free-For-All mentality(Kuhn, 1995). Do not have the goal of your conversation be to win.Communication is not a competition.

If communication is unclear, so is the learning.

Goals:• Dont just listen. Provide reinforcement.• Learn something new• Leave the conversation feeling good • Collaborate

Maintain a healthy,successful and winning business team.

What does your successful team look like?

When working as a team remember to:

• Be aware of individual ability. Strive to improve.• Believe you can attain the goals you set. Get motivated. • Be aware of your outside influencers.Adapt to change.• Engage in effective communication. Collaborate.
