Getting Involved

What?Getting involved is very easy to accomplish. FIrst you need to decided what you enjoy during your spare time or a favorite hobby. Involvment ranges from an art club to greek life to a fitness club. Also, there are academicinvolvements such as the Forensics team or Mathletes. There areseveral things that you can get involved in at Western Kentucky University. You just need to find your zin.

How?The first thing you need to do is figure out what it is you like to do or would want to do. Af-ter you have figured that out you need to contact some-one to get involved. Most outside activites on campus are on the WKU websitelisted on page 2. After you have contaced someone ask many questions about the organization itself and what you can do as an individual to better the organization as well as youself. The most im-portant thing about getting involved is making sure you

involve yourself to the best ability. Dont just be a person in the background, be the next president or next important figure. Get-tinginvolved is simple but actually doing something with your involvment is something different.

Being involved in any type of club or organization can help your future in so many different way.Networking is a great way being involved helps. When you network you meet people who have connections and people you would not have met if you were not involved. Also, you may have something in common with a potential boss that the other candidates dont will help you stick out. Those are just a few of the many reasons why being involved helps with your future.

First Big RedMark Greer was the first Big Red mascot for WKU. From geting involved in the university Mark recieved his first major emplyment.

The University Experience

The ones who stay and the ones who dontSome people say college isnt for

everyone. Studies show that over 60% of students who drop out of college were not involved during their time there. That is why being involved is so important. Out of the people who dont drop out and are involved 87% say college was the best time of their lives. The men and women who obtain a college degree are proven to go further in their careers and live a happier and healthier life. So it is very important to get involved and stay in school.

It was never a doubt in my mind to join Kappa Delta sorority when I came to WKU. It keeps me accountable and has high standards that I strive for each day. Yes, it gets overwhelming at times but I know if I was not involved I wouldnt be where I am today.-Brooke Sage
