Ithaca: Back In Business
NEWS
During the twenty year absence of the King of
Ithaca, Odysseus, and the stepping in of the suit-ors, the kingdom experienced tremendous inter-
nal instability, leading to the stagnation of many
economic activities, such as improvements in
dom and reclaimed it against allodds. Now that the suitors were
driven out, and that Ithaca was
in the right hands and recon-
ciliation has occurred, Odysseus
now faces the challenge of re-
storing his beloved kingdom to
its former glory, undoing thetwenty years worth of damage it
received in his absence. Gener-
ally, the trends seem to indicate
favorable events.
Odysseus, being a master architect, has de-
signed many new seaports in the region to ac-commodate more efficient travel and trade and
modernized existing ones to keep up with those
in neighboring Achaean territories. Existing

ATTRACTIONS
AttractionsThere are many famous spots inIthaca that travelers can freely roamaround with the two most notable
being the royal palace and a newly
built temple dedicated to Athena. Both of these were designed by thehead of state Odysseus, and weremade to be both functional and
beautiful. The Temple of Athena inIthaca is the largest temple dedicatedto the goddess found in Achaeankingdoms, with many altars andworshipping areas along with specific
rooms where people can ask for thecounsel of priests and priestesses ofAthena. There are also manymountains in Ithaca, all of which offerscenic views of the islands.
ShoppingIthaca, being a bastion of economic
development among Achaeankingdoms is definitely a place whereyou can buy many things, rangingfrom clothes to books. Ithaca ismostly known as a center for thedistribution of scholarly text asOdysseus has made education a top
priority in the island. Ithacan cuisineis also really unique among Achaean
food as it is highly influenced by theirlack of land resources, having tomake do with some ingredients that
normally wouldnt work together and blending them into delicacies to diefor.
Transportation and Communication
Transportation around Ithaca is veryconvenient. There are many carriageswhich roam the streets, ready to dropyou off at a destination you please, and there are well-implemented trafficlaws to ensure that there are veryminimal problems with congestion. Ifyou wish to hop on to the otherislands of Ithaca, the inter-island
canoe system provides a fast andsimple way to get across. Ithaca's postoffice system is also very efficient, since there is one major post office
per island, and the mail is sorted on a per-district basis where each districthas a few designated deliverycarriages. The transport fares within
Ithaca are reasonable, and thetransport system beats that ofneighboring kingdoms thus far.
In ConclusionOnce that is all said and done, youcan have a truly fruitful trip to theisland and get to enjoy its manyunique points compared to other
Achaean kingdoms. Have a nice tripto Ithaca!

Penelopes StruggleIts been a long 20 years but I have to say
Im glad my husband is back says Penelope.! During the absence of Odysseus, most of our kingdom was suffering from
despair but none as much as Penelope
herself did. She endured decades of
hopelessness and taunts by suitors that
infested the very palace of our god-like
Odysseus.
The suitors never knew that I had actually
been going around my deal with them
regarding the weaving of the cloth
FACES OF ITHACA
If theres one place that couldtake one back to the past and atthe same time give one aglimpse of rich culture andhistory, then Ithaca is the placeto be. Aside from the beautifulscenery and unique places thatdistinguish Ithaca from the rest,

the arrogance and persistence of the suitors. Penelopealso had to cope with the dreaded suitors, and she also
had a difficult time sacrificing and waiting forOdysseus to come back home even if her hope slowly
faded away. Odysseus, in turn, also missed his family
dearly, and wanted to go back home, but was hindered
from doing so because of the numerous obstacles he
had to face in order to get there. However, when the
three finally met, every thing fell into place, and the
suitors were finally defeated. Speaking of the suitors, they, on the other hand, act as opposing forces to the
desires of Odysseuss family, which is basically to
reunite with each other once again.
The island of Ithaca is filled to the brim with varying
characters and personalities, which can help one
entirely in comprehending the island itself. Somehow,
one of the main focuses within the island is the idea offather and son, that they are both similar to one
another and that they exhibit different attitudes that
complement each other as a whole. A father shows
much more experience and power than a son, but the
son shows more potential for growth than the father.
For example, Odysseus is seemingly god-like,
showing no apparent weaknesses except that of his pride, which then says that there is little or no
potential room for improvement at all. Telemachus,
on the other hand, doesnt have the enormous amount
Ithaca is truly a place where one can revisit the past

Telemachus, the son of god-like Odysseus, has always been an interesting individual. In a sense, he
lacks the things his father is most famous for, which are absolute strength, power, cunning, and
wisdom, but somehow resembles him in some instances, whether it be his actions or personality.
Ithaca must be proud to have him.
" This is why we managed to interview Telemachus for a while. Our Research Editor,Seiphathus, found him sitting in one of the local restaurants, and proceeded with the interview. The
recent slaughtering of the suitors is a very interesting topic, so wed like Telemachus to answer ourquestions regarding the event. Wed also want to look into his life more and possibly delve into some
of his hidden talents and secrets. Here is a copy of the actual interview:
SP: The sun shines brightly on you today, thoughtful Telemachus, sir.
TM: Please, just call me Tele. Its cuter.
SP: Okay, Tele then. So, how are you feeling today?
TM: Im good. I just had lunch with my dad at Three Layers of Fat. By Zeuss beard that OxThigh with Three Layers of Fat was splendid! And the Pork Belly with Two Layers of Fat?
Sumptuous!
SP: (laughter) Yes, I know what you mean! I have been there countless times already, and the food
and drinks never cease to amaze me. So, anyway, Tele, Ive heard that you and your father have just
recently eliminated every single suitor in your palace. Tell me, Tele, how did you manage this? Was it
destiny that proved to be your greatest ally during that time? Or did the gods bless you and yourfamily with great power to begin with?
TM: Fate had nothing to do with it. The gods blessed us with each other, and thats all I can say.

SP: (laughter) Tele, I didnt know you were this kind of person. The gods have truly made you
something special. Anyway, I see you bandaged your whole left arm. What happened? Was it because
of the battle?
TM: Yes, yes it was! In fact, I was scared to death when one of the spears thrown by the suitors
grazed my left wrist. Thank the gods! Im so lucky to be alive!
SP: Tele, the suitors grazed your left wrist. Youre overreacting! Theres no need to bandage your
entire arm!
TM: Yes, there is! The wound was so big! I had to call my dad to bandage it for me. Also, my skin
complexion will be ruined if I dont cover it up. By the gods, Im scarred for life! What am I supposed
to do? Leave it as is? No way. Too risky.
SP: (sigh) Alright. Whatever you say, Tele. Going back to the interview, how do you think the
slaughter of the suitors would affect Ithaca as a whole? Will it ever be the same again?
TM: Of course it wont! The Ithaca now is ruled by my dad, of course, so theres definitely going to
be some changes around here. Maybe I can finally get my own room and decorate it with seashells
from the coast or flowers near the pathway! Just kidding!
SP: Hermes has truly given you the personality of a joker, Tele.
TM: I appreciate your compliment. Anyway, initially we had some sort of resistance from the suitors
kinsmen, but we easily handled it. I dont think this would affect Ithaca at all. My dad can doanything!
SP: He is the king after all.

A Short StoryRainbow Cemetery by Neilanos
This did not seem very good. As I was being
ferried along by Charon into the depths of theunderworld, I have discovered for myself why it
was very much possible for even godlike
Odysseus and his almost-as-godlike companions
to be crying like infants in grief. The bleak,
desolate landscape around me is tearing away at
my sanity, and I am as scared as a little lamb about
to be preyed upon by a lion. Here's a simple
rundown: First, I am already sick from hearing
eerie moans, shrills of pain and gnashing of teeththroughout the cruise. Also, the interesting sights
here on the route would be giant flaming rivers of
ice and fire and dead persons' souls, most
especially the less righteous ones, being served
with heaping helpings of even more suffering.
And finally, I was apparently lucky to have even
seen those horrible sights in the first place for
there's an evil, otherworldly fog shrouding
everything in front of the boat.
The ferryman chuckled after a quick glance at my
direction, seeing a concrete manifestation of my
uneasiness in the form of a stain on my crotch
area. He then went back to his job of rowing,
would-be murderers in the near future, but he just
ignored me. After a long walk on a dirt pathwaythrough the fog, I reached the crest of a small hill
and was greeted by the sight of a medium-sized
city, with small stone houses illuminated by
lamps. Civilization! In Hades, no less! This will
make for a great scoop for Odysseus. Will they
torture or murder me? Or maybe they'll defile me
with evil magic and turn me into a ham? For the
sake of my suicide mission and for sheer glory (of
course!), I shall continue on my quest.
A few steps after traversing the rocky terrain on
the way down the hill, I encountered a young man
who possessed a very peculiar lack of clothes as if
he was from another land. The man had eyes that
could pierce a man's soul, with strange pieces of
glass covering them fastened onto a frame sitting
on his ears. On the lower half of his body was but
a crimson loincloth made of glossy leather. This
attire glorifies his godlike physique, and I feelextremely apprehensive just by looking at the
man. Before I was able to do anything else,
however, the man quickly moved towards me
with an evil smile. I panicked, and when I was
this time I do not need a thorough exfoliation and
moisturizing that can potentially kill me.
Suma Cum Laude then led me and the rest of the
men to a long dining table of lacquered wood and
had us all sit down. Afterwards, he politely asked:
Tell me, stranger... I quickly interrupt him,
though, knowing that an unnecessarily long
exposition will occur, so I go straight to the point.
My name is Neilanos, and I am here to learn
more about your beautiful culture!
The eyes of everyone present were beaming with
pride at that statement. Suma Cum Laude quickly
rose from his seat, slamming the table with both of
his hands, crying out: Then there is no time to
waste then! Let us show Neilanos, then, our
beautiful culture!
A mere moment later and I have been magically
transported to the second floor of a simple house
on the outskirts of the city. If everything I've beenthrough at the hands of the Underlanders wasn't
enough, then this takes the cake. I begin to wonder
if the inhabitants have inebriated Hades of the

! I have been a long-time reader of your magazine, and I have always been astounded by the quality of yourarticles. You are very good at presenting many aspects oftravel to Achaean kingdoms, and your travel guides arevery much helpful, as they cover many practical things likeplaces to stay and cruise lines to use. However, I am quite
surprised that you do not yet have an issue dedicatedespecially to Ithaca. As a local of Ithaca, I feel that Ithacais not getting enough attention, especially now that Ithacahas quickly risen back to the economic prosperity of otherkingdoms, perhaps even overtaking them, and the tourismin Ithaca has now prospered with new lodges and seaports. Can you make a feature on Ithaca sometime?
-Abinitius
Thank you very much for the flattering remarks, Abinitius. We
are doing our best to make our editorials enjoyable to read, so that we
will be able to keep our loyal readers out there. Creating an issue
about Ithaca is quite difficult since the feud between the suitors and
Odysseus recently ended. But after months of research and traveling
around Ithaca, we were able see some progress and stability in their
economy. To put the icing on the cake, we decided to fabricate a one-
of-a-kind edition of Ithaca. I hope that issue of the voyager would
address your desires, sir. Thank you and I hope that you would enjoy
this special edition brought to you by the Voyager.
punished the suitors and expelled them. This months focus is feature
Ithaca after the rule of the suitors.
First of all, being a scholar in Alexandria, I appreciate your magazine being very well-written in that it is veryinformative and engrossing to read. However, I would liketo point out a notable mistake in your magazine that Iencountered. In a past issue (Thebes, August), it statedthat Ithacas head of state was Penelope when in fact itwas Odysseus despite the fact that he was absent then.
-Lanyunicles
Mister scholar, I appreciate that you point out some mistakes in
our articles. We forgot to indicate that she was just the officer-in-
charge (OIC) while Odysseus was gone. Our crew did not expect that
Odysseus would come back since it has been almost 20 years since we
first saw him in person. More power to you, and please be persistent
in sending us some of our mistakes.
Hello The Voyager Magazine. I have read many ofyour past issues, and it is good that you are now focusingon Achaean kingdoms. Your features of Thebes, Sparta, and Athens were all good, but I feel that these kingdomsare already very well-known. Maybe you can focus onother less-known Kingdoms as the more known kingdoms
