FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Jonathan Rose Companies’ Kristin Ryan Receives National Recognition with 2016 LOCUS Leadership Award *** HALA Advisory Committee Members Honored at Annual Awards Recognizing Real Estate Leaders Working to Create Walkable, Equitable Urban Neighborhoods (June 8, 2016- Washington, D.C.) Each year, LOCUS: Responsible Real Estate Developers and Investors, a program of Smart Growth America, recognizes real estate professionals who have demonstrated exemplary leadership in creating sustainable, equitable, walkable urban neighborhoods with their annual LOCUS Leadership Awards. This year, Kristin Neil Ryan, managing director of Jonathan Rose Companies’ Seattle office, received the 2016 Richard Baron Affordable Housing Award, along with Maria Barrientos and Gabe Grant, as Advisory Committee members of the Housing Affordability and Livability Agenda (HALA) for their outstanding work helping to create more affordable housing in Seattle, WA. Ryan, Barrientos and Grant helped to negotiate Seattle’s affordable housing “grand bargain,” a recommendation to require new housing developments to include affordable units, and that commercial developments contribute fees towards affordable housing. As the key recommendation among more than 50 HALA recommendations, the grand bargain would not have been possible without these winners’ dedicated, intelligent and persuasive leadership. “With this award, LOCUS has recognized the value of bringing together private and government entities to collaborate on developing solutions on ways to provide more affordable housing in dense, popular, livable neighborhoods,” said Ms. Ryan of Jonathan Rose Companies. “Jonathan Rose Companies has a strong history of partnering with public entities to help balance policy and public goals with realistic market-driven solutions. We believe deeply that the inclusion of affordable units in mixed income buildings, in locations accessible to jobs and amenities, is of benefit to the entire city. For these reasons, we have always been leaders of Smart Growth and I thank LOCUS for recognizing these efforts with this award.” The LOCUS Leadership Awards will be presented at the 2016 LOCUS National Leadership Summit taking place in Boston, MA on June 14, 2016. The Summit will bring together real estate developers, investors and public officials from across the country for high-level networking and peer-to-peer education. Real estate professionals interested in smart growth strategies are warmly invited to attend. “Barrientos, Ryan, and Grant are leaders in the truest sense of the word,” said Christopher Coes, director of LOCUS. “They brought together a diverse group of people to achieve a shared goal, and in doing so helped people of all income levels live in Seattle’s fantastic
