Background

The recent catastrophic rains have caused havoc, resulting inthe most damaging floods in Pakistan’s History.

Not only it is having devastating effect on livelihoods allinfrastructure has been severely impacted in the affectedareas including roads and telecommunication.

Damage AssessmentDamages Categories as reported by Operators

Erosion of boundary walls and tower bases.

Equipment damage due to water accumulation inside the site.(BSS ,Trx, Power etc)

Feeder cables damage due to settlement of cable bridgefoundation support.

In rare cases tower foundation settlement issues have occurred.

Fiber cable Cuts on backbone and local fibers cables.

Microwave Backhaul disruption

Short circuits and power system damage including Generatordamage

Damage Assessment

The current Damage Assessment estimates a loss ofApproximately Rs. 4147.643 Million from Landline andCellular Operators Only. This figure represents the sites which aretotally damaged and are un-operational.

However, the cost incurred to repair/recover the damaged siteshave not been included. It may be around Rs. 10 t0 15 Lac per site.

This is only a snapshot of damage incurred till September 2010.

Therefore, the total cost estimate is likely to increase significantly.
