ICT-BIOCHAIN PROJECT GOALS

Establish multi-actor Digital InnovationHubs (DIHs) for biomass supply chainswithin the Model Demonstrator Regionsfor Sustainable Chemicals: S-E Ireland andAndalusia.

Develop region-specific bio-resource datamodels and provide access within hubs tobest knowledge, information andtechnology to promote opportunities forstate-of-the-art and new ICT, IoT andIndustry 4.0 solutions to be integratedinto biomass supply chains.

Support the growth of the EU bioeconomy byfacilitating greater availability of competitivelypriced biomass for sustainable chemicalproduction.

Develop value chain coalitions of multi-actorsthrough intensive knowledge transfer andexploitation activities.

ABOUT THE IRISH DIGITAL INNOVATION HUB

Ireland

The South-East Ireland MDR is in the heart of Ireland’s strong agri-food sector. Within the ICT-BIOCHAIN project a more detailed regional breakdown of bioresources available is being undertaken.

• Eco-System Development

The ICT-BIOCHAIN Digital Innovation Hub will create an eco-system of biomass suppliers, biobasedindustries, ICT technology and business development experts to support the development of efficientbiomass supply chains for Ireland’s National Bioeconomy Campus.

• Access to technology

The Digital Innovation Hub will allow biobased industries, primary producers and other bioeconomystakeholders to access ICT advisory services and digital technology networks to support development ofmore efficient biobased supply chains and industries.

• Access to bioresources:

The Digital Innovation Hub will allow bioeconomy stakeholders to access advisory services on Ireland’sbioresources for building new value chains. Bioresources include dairy residues, horticulture residues andlignocellulosic residues.

Irish Model Demonstration Region

South-East Ireland Model Demonstrator Region, is centredaround the National Bioeconomy Campus, currently beingdeveloped on the site of the former Lisheen Mine (lead/zincmine in Lisheen, Co. Tipperary)

Futhermore, though the Irish Bioeconomy foundation, more andmore Irish bioeconomy stakeholders are being mobilised towardthe mapping activation of the local ecosystem, as part of boththe ICT-BIOCHAIN project and the local initiative of IBF BioMap.

FINAL REMARKS

It is very important to customise stakeholder messages in order to properly catch their attention. Stakeholder profile categorization will ease the tailoring and further communication actions.

The main aim when designing the Hub and corresponding services is to target the needs of biomass related companies and focus on outreach and provide services to SMEs and companies that are not yet in their networks.

Involving stakeholders as part of the steering committee was perceived by the rest of stakeholders as an evidence Digital Innovation Hub how could effectively contribute to improve their competitiveness.

At the launch event, participants acknowledge the workshop sessions where biomass companies

express their needs and ICT providers show available solutions and opportunities.

Events should be designed using a flexible approach since sometimes people cannot commit the whole day (e.g. especially in the demo day where they are subject to the bus transportation).

• The use of ICT is needed to boost the biomass value chains inthe bioeconomy sector for biomass supply chainsmobilisation as our work in the `Identification of opportunitiesfor ICT, IoT and Industry 4.0´ shows.



• The formation of 2 DIH as regional structures for thedevelopment of the bioeconomy in a sustainable way bycooperation and mobilisation of the main actors at regionallevel, able to be replicated in other bioeconomy regions.



• All the work carried out is aligned with EU policies:

– Green Deal

– European Climate Pact

– CAP: Common Agriculture Policy

– Digital Europe Programme



• To keep sustainability in the long term, we have the prototypeplatform and the biomass data model developed during theproject timeline. Please fill in the survey for all interestedentities to be able to improve in the future.
