WHAT IS CAMP LAUNCH?
Camp Launch is a two-week, resident ia l exper ience for high-abi l i ty ,
low-income r is ing 7th and 8th graders. Camp Launch started with a
grant f rom the Jack Kent Cooke Foundat ion to The Center for Gi f ted
Educat ion in 2012, and expanded with cont inued f inancial support
f rom pr ivate donors, Nancy & Mike Petters of the Petters Family
Foundat ion.
At Camp Launch, our aim is to provide students wi th opportuni t ies
which could launch them on a path to future success.

BENEFITS TO STUDENTS
Students exper ience an ear ly taste of campus-
l i fe at W&M, l iv ing in the dorms, eat ing at a
campus dining faci l i ty , learning on campus.
Students exper ience advanced coursework in
science, technology, engineer ing, math,
wri t ing, and other content as wel l as personal
development and academic sel f -ef f icacy.
Students develop a network of t rue academic
peers: age-mates who are high-achieving,
highly mot ivated.
Students receive a tablet to use at Camp and
to take home.
Students are invi ted to return as r is ing 8th
graders to serve as mentors to the incoming
new group of 7th graders.
STUDENT ELIGIBILITY Students must meet the fol lowing academic el ig ib i l i ty requirements:
• Standardized test scores at the 90th percent i le or better in at least one
of the test subscales, or
• Recommendat ion accompanied by evidence of performance
Students should possess an appropr iate level of matur i ty and
independence to be away from home for two weeks
Student receives free/reduced lunch or fami ly income does not exceed
$45,000 for a fami ly of four
Students must be r is ing 7th graders in the summer of 2019
