Lincoln Composites and Ragasco offer the TUFFSHELL®, TITAN™ & LIGHTSTORE™ Type 4 composite cylinders are manufactured by computer controlled, high-speed filament winding process developed and refined over 5 decades. With more than 150,000 cylinders mounted to road vehicles worldwide, these products represent the international bench mark for high quality and light weight cylinders, outcompeting steel in both performance and cost.

TUFFSHELL®, TITAN™ & LIGHTSTORE™ cylinders have a high-density polymeric liner that offers superior resistance to corrosion, stress cracking and cyclic fatigue. The patented interlocking of the liner to the boss interface provides a leak proof seal between the plastic liner and the metal end bosses.

Space-Age Performance:

When new lightweight pressure vessels were needed for the NASA Space programmes, Lincoln Composites, USA led the way. The technology has been used for mission critical applications like Aircraft emergency power, Ejection systems, Skylab gas cylinders, Space Shuttle high pressure containment & Satellite propulsion systems. Today there is a similar requirement for earthbound alternate fuel vehicles, and the Hexagon Composites group provides the right solutions to the global market. With 50 years of experience in advanced composites, the customer gets the most reliable product with the longest

and safest history in the industry.

The Company:

The Hexagon Composites Group is the world leader in the design and manufacture of ultra light weight composite cylinders for LPG, CNG, Biomethane and Hydrogen applications. Its group companies Lincoln Composites, USA and Ragasco AS, Norway offer a wide range of solutions for storage of compressed gases for

NGVs and Gas transportation. With its global presence the Hexagon Composites group is a trusted, proven and reliable partner of OEM’s and gas distribution companies worldwide.

The cylinders have a structural shell wound from a hybrid of high strength carbon fibre blended with tough glass filaments. Combining these fibres with the proprietary resin systems provides outstanding toughness and durability against UV and significantly enhances the impact damage tolerance and mitigating damage from chemical or environmental attack as well as abrasion from improper handling or accidents.

The TITAN™, the world`s largest composite high pressure cylinder reduces cost for road transportation of CNG and other gases often by more than 50%.

TUFFSHELL® fuel cylinders from Lincoln Composites can be used for storage of Compressed Natural Gas and Hydrogen up to 1050 bar service pressure for use in buses, trucks and gas transportation.

LIGHTSTORE™ fuel cylinders from Ragasco are used for CNG applications in passenger cars and Light Commercial Vehicles being designed to fit into available space.

Commitment to Quality:Lincoln Composites & Ragasco have a long-standing commitment to the very highest levels of product quality. Our quality system has its roots in Space and Defence programmes and today is successfully meeting the requirements of vehicle OEMs as well as large oil and gas companies. The products have been crash tested by customers successfully and we have an unmatched safety record in the industry. Quality is a commitment and tradition of which we are very proud. The efforts are guided by:

• Total Quality Management philosophy

• Dedication to continuous improvement in product and process

• Exhaustive certification and testing

The Cutting-Edge Advantage

• Weight -• As low as 30% of the weight of a equivalent Steel cylinder• Increases payload of vehicle• Reduces structural redesigning• Improves fuel efficiency• Reduces maintenance due to lower wear and tear

• Safety - • Additional safety margins in fire due to ability to self release gas in high temperature• High impact strength even in high impact collisions – Meets harsh crash requirements of

Mercedes Benz & GM Opel• 20 years of safety record

• Corrosion and Fatigue - • No inside or outside corrosion • Ideal for use in vehicle underbody, coastal areas and marine applications

• Product Life - • No inside or outside corrosion • Ideal for use in vehicle underbody, coastal areas and marine applications

• Retesting Requirements - • Manufacturer requires periodic visual inspection only (at 36 month intervals)• No hydraulic retesting required. Significantly reduces operational cost • Increases utilisation for operations

• Life Cycle Costs - • Based on various factors, less than steel.

• Standards - • Type 4 cylinders exceeding the requirements of all current international standards

• Environment - • Lower carbon footprint and pollution due to lighter weight = less energy required to move

and transport composite cylinders.

Get the Advantage that matters!

The Type 4 composite cylinders can be used in the energy recovery drive system which offers significant fuel savings and increased efficiency. Energy is stored in the hydraulic accumulators during braking and then used to accelerate the vehicle. Significant fuel savings achieved in applications with high stop/

start duty cycles like city buses, garbage trucks & delivery vehicles. These cylinders offer in excess of 80% reduction in weight over metal accumulators.

TUFFSHELL® bus packs are designed to be maintenance friendly. The access doors allow cylinders and system plumbing to be easily inspected during routine preventative maintenance. The robust design of the isolation mounts, frame and protective covers of the pack provide a structurally sound storage compartment that will absorb the loads that occur during everyday use of the vehicle and minimizes damage occurring during accidents and impact.

Hydrogen:

The TUFFSHELL® gaseous fuel cylinders designed and produced by Lincoln Composites are also designed to be used for hydrogen applications. TUFFSHELL® hydrogen cylinders are the lightest weight cylinders available in the world today and offer superior fatigue life, excellent durability and low permeation at a competitive cost. The world’s largest automotive manufacturers have used the TUFFSHELL® cylinders for their advanced technology prototype hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Lincoln Composite’s ability to change operating pressure, lengths and diameters to meet the exacting industry expectations makes our product ideal for hydrogen usage.
