Nirgendwo in Afrika (2001) – October 10 An urban German Jewish refugee family moves to and adjusts to a farm life in 1930's Kenya. Featuring amazing cinematography of the Kenyan landscape and fascinating encounters between the German family and their new Kenyan companions. Winner of the 2002 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Comedian Harmonists (1997) – October 24 Comedian Harmonists tells the story of a famous, German male sextet, five vocals and piano, the "Comedian Harmonists", from the day they meet first in 1927 to the day in 1934, when they become banned by the upcoming Nazis, because three of them are Jewish. Starring Ben Becker, Meret Becker, Katja Riemann. Jenseits der Stille (1996) – November 7 Since the earliest days in her childhood Lara has had a difficult but important task. Both her parents are deafmute and Lara has to translate in signlanguage for her parents. When she begins a musical career, her parents unsupportive. The day comes when Lara has to decide between her parents and her own ambitions. Directed by Caroline Link.the mood between both groups is insecure and rather emphatic. But soon quarrels arise and the wardens employ ever more drastic sanctions to confirm their authority. Das Leben der Anderen (2006) – November 21 In 1984 East Berlin, an agent of the secret police, conducting surveillance on a writer and his actress lover, finds himself becoming increasingly absorbed by their lives. Winner of the 2007 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Featuring Martina Gedeck. M (1931) – December 5 A psychotic child murderer stalks a city whisling a Grieg tune, and despite an exhaustive investigation fueled by public hysteria and outcry, the police have been unable to find him. But the police crackdown does have one sideeffect, it makes it nearly impossible for the organized criminals to operate. So they decide that the only way to get the police off their backs is to catch the murderer and ‘try’ him on their own. Peter Lorre and Gustav Gründgens star in this Fritz Lang film that has become one of the classics of Weimar Cinema and has made notorious Edvard Griegs 'In The Hall of the Mountain King' from the ‘Peer Gynt’ suite.
