Evie Berry Film Pitch Script Slide 1: My film is called By Proxy, it features the disability Munchausen syndrome by proxy. It is a relatively rare form of abuse in which a care-giver fabricates an illness or symptom in the person that they are caring for. Slide 2: By Proxy is a horror thriller, I’m using different conventions to make sure that it meets the genre requirements. POV and ECU shots are good for building up tension, the audience can be put in the place of the protagonist or villain and the ECU shots can create tension and fear because the audience doesn’t know who or what the threat is. The theme of restoring justice features in many thriller films, it builds up tension because the audience doesn’t know if the characters will have justice. Fake scares can build up tension for the final scare of the film and the theme of good versus evil gives the audience a clear idea of who to support during the film. Slide 3: When Matthew dies suddenly his sister Rachel refuses to believe that it was unexplainable. Staying with his widowed wife Angela, Rachel discovers that there was a darker side to his ‘happy’ marriage. Slide 4: The key characters in By Proxy are played by Famke Janssen (known for Taken and the X-Men series), Joey King (known for The Conjuring and Ramona and Beezus), Mark Ruffalo (known for the Avengers and Shutter Island) and Kim Rhodes (known for The Suite life of Zack and Cody and Supernatural). I have chosen to use these actors because they are all recognisable and some have Oscar wins and nominations. To an audience this shows that they are capable actors and the familiar faces may make the film more appealing. Slide 5: The director of my film will be Pascal Laugier, some of his most notable films are Martyrs, The Tall Man and House of Voices. I have chosen him because he has experience with working on horror films and has won 5 awards for his films. Martyrs is a disturbing and visceral horror, by making him the director of my film it will ensure that there is a significant amount of horror and it is done well.

I have chosen him because he has experience with working on horror films and has won 5 awards for his films. Martyrs is a disturbing and visceral horror, by making him the director of my film it will ensure that there is a significant amount of horror and it is done well. Slide 6: My target audience for this film is women aged between 18-24, although most horror films are aimed towards young males my research shows that the most popular demographic for horror films are young women. The plotline for my film is also likely to be more appealing to women and adults, generally a male audience would prefer more gore and younger people arent likely to know about Munchausen syndrome by proxy.Slide 7: My film will be set in the suburbs of Hudson, Ohio. The city was ranked one of the safest in the state so setting my film here should make it more chilling. Slide 8: A childs cry for help was a film that featured Munchausen syndrome by proxy, my film differs from this one because it was a drama, while still chilling I hope to make my film more disturbing. A daughters nightmare was another film that featured the disorder as well. It was a mystery, thriller drama, so again it differs from my film because its a drama and because its a mystery. However, I do intend to have some aspects of my film as a thriller. Slide 9: I will have a fairly low budget for this film, there isnt any CGI used and the props, costumes and makeup should be fairly cheap. The location isnt in high demand either so it should be fairly easy to get and shouldnt be too expensive. Slide 10: For the UK release the film will be released in Odeon cinemas, they have the leading cinema positions in the UK and Ireland, 1.6 million weekly guests and co-own DCM. In America the film will be released by the regal entertainment company, they have over 7,000 screens in 588 locations in 44 states and have been well established since 1989. They have had 220.25 million visitors in 2014. Releasing the film with these movie theatre chains ensures that it reaches a maximum audience and, because of the status of the actors in the film, it is likely to be appealing and the film should make more money. Slide 11: Thank-you for listening.
