Pardi-Gras®
ParadeThe Pardi-Gras® Parade happens on Bourbon Street
on Friday , Jan. 17, from 8pm - 9pm.
The Pardi-Gras® Parade is a popular ongoing tradition at our event. We've been doing this since the year 2004, and it is one of the highlights of Friday's many activities. We parade in a circular route that begins at the corner of Bourbon & Orleans and travels up Royal Street before coming down Bourbon. We encourage everyone to bring (or buy) beads to throw to the hundreds of people lining the sidewalks of Bourbon Street. We'll have walkers in costumes, in normal dress, and also vehicles from some of our sponsors. The newly crowned Pardi-Gras® King and Queen will guide the parade from the Pardi-Gras® Royalty Float. If you'd like to walk in the parade, all you have to do is be ready to line up at the Tropical Isle at Orleans Street on Friday night at 7:45pm.

Pardi-Gras® Poker RunWe are pleased to announce a new “event within the event” at Pardi-Gras this year! It is
the first ever Pardi-Gras “Poker Run”. It is going to take place on Saturday, Jan. 18, at several live music venues located on Bourbon Street. Here is how it will work:
-everyone registered for Pardi-Gras is invited to participate.-at 11:30am, there will be a table set up at the Bourbon O! Bar, in the Bourbon Orleans
Hotel, during the musical performance of Don Middlebrook-at that table, anyone interested in participating in the Poker Run can pick up a
“scorecard,” that will be used during the Run-a modest entry fee of $10 PER TEAM will be collected at that time. Teams will consist
of 2 people. The Poker Run is limited to the first 100 teams to enter.-participants will visit 5 different venues on Bourbon Street at designated times, where
they will draw a card and have it recorded on their scorecard.
-completed cards will be turned into Pardi-Gras officials for verification and tabulation.-the three highest scorecards submitted will be announced, and prize money awarded at the
Tropical Isle during the intermission of the Jerry Diaz & Hanna’s Reef show. That will take place at 4pm.
A full set of rules, instructions, and schedule will be available when you pickup your scorecard, and can also be found on the Pardi-Gras website. Those instructions will
supersede anything printed here.

Monte Tolar’s Pirate ToastAaargh Mateys! Calling all pirates, wenches, (and landlubbers) to remember our good friend Monte Tolar for the 8th annual "Pirate Toast" at midnight! A master of both pillaging and plundering, Captain Tolar once lead a group of respectable people (that's us) in a traditional pirate toast. Dammit Earl, Brian Watson, and this year, Brent Jones continue that tradition to this very day. It is then followed immediately by pirate chantys. The costumes, the place, and the alcohol all make for a true "pirate" experience in the city where pirates STILL roam the streets! (Costumes are encouraged, but not mandatory.)
"Monte Tolar's Pirate Toast" happens at Lafitte's Blacksmith Shoppe, at 941 Bourbon St. on Friday, Jan. 17, at MIDNIGHT.

Bourbon StreetPub Crawl
Grand Marshall: Mike NashThe longest running event at Pardi-Gras® (and still the most popular) is the "World Famous Pub Crawl". Imagine 200 or so highly-motivated drinkers walking into your bar on Bourbon Street, all wanting a drink RIGHT NOW! Well that's the perspective of the bars that we go into on Friday afternoon during Pardi-Gras®.
We follow one simple rule: you must have one drink at every bar we go into. It's an honor system kind of thing, so we need to know that we can count on you to hold up your end!
We'll start at the Hard Rock Café and eventually make our way down to the Tropical Isle at Orleans St. and Bourbon. In case you haven't figured it out, it's really just an excuse for a bunch of otherwise responsible adults to act like the children they really are (and have fun doing it!)

The History of Pardi-Gras®
In 1992 Jerry Diaz was president of the Gulf Coast Beach Club, a Parrot Head Club in the Beaumont, TX area. At the time there were only two Parrot Head Club’s in existence, Beaumont and the original club in Atlanta, GA. Jerry decided that the two clubs should get together for some fun. He planned a party in the French Quarter, of New Orleans, to be held in December of 1992. On a whim he decided to call it “Meeting Of The Minds”. A highlight of the event was the presentation of a special "Tin Cup Chalice" award, to Jimmy Buffett. That first MOTM was a success. The party quickly grew over the next few years, as other clubs and individuals stepped in to run the event. Parrot Heads in Paradise, Inc.® was established in 1994, and the organization became the official hosts of MOTM, which was moved to Key West in 1998.
Moving MOTM to Florida meant that New Orleans no longer had an event for Parrot Heads. History repeated itself, and Jerry once again organized a party in the French Quarter. He called this one “Meeting Of The Mindless,” a name that lasted for a few years, until it was changed to “Pardi-Gras” in 2003. Over the year’s, Pardi-Gras became one of the premier events for Parrot Heads and fans of Trop-Rock music. Pardi-Gras was the first tourist event to return to the City following Hurricane Katrina. The 2006 event was featured on several national news outlets. Known as the “Ultimate French Quarter Party,” Pardi-Gras has been awarded “Event of the Year” by the Trop Rock Music Association in 2009, 2011, and 2012.
In November of 2011, PHIP awarded Jerry Diaz with a special “Tin Cup Chalice” of his own. It was awarded in recognition of his work as the founder of Meeting Of The Minds. Scott Nickerson, founder of the Atlanta Parrot Head Club, also received a Chalice at that time. Today Jerry’s Chalice is on display at the Tropical Isle, located at the corner of Bourbon & Toulouse. Its location is only a few short steps away from the building that hosted the first MOTM. It serves as a permanent reminder, of the French Quarter’s place in Trop Rock history.
