Introduction

I. Mission Statement

"Phi Gamma Delta exists to promote lifelong friendships, to

reaffirm high ethical standards and values, and to foster

personal development in the pursuit of excellence. Phi

Gamma Delta is committed to provide opportunities for each

brother to develop responsibility, leadership, scholarship,

and social skills in order to become a fully contributing

member of society.”

II. History

The DePaul colony of Phi Gamma Delta was founded on

October 26, 2011. On October 27, 2011, the men that

accepted bids into the Delta Colony hosted a “Meet the Fiji’s”

event in which the men were shown off to the DePaul Univer-

sity community. Josh Moore and Adam Thomas began the

colony with 24 men accepting membership to Phi Gamma

Delta.

In January of 2012, DePaul FIJI sent three representatives to

the annual Academy convention in St. Louis, Missouri, where

they brought back information about governing the newly

established colony, proper recruiting techniques and a

network of over 600 brothers. The men attended many

events during the winter quarter including homecoming and

multiple community service opportunities. Four additional

men joined the ranks and became the Beta class for the Delta

colony.

After many months of planning, during the spring quarter of

2012, the colony held its first philanthropy event entitled The

RED Event. The RED Event celebrated a milestone for the

colony as its first ever philanthropy event, fundraising over

1200 dollars to benefit the American Red Cross. The men

also took part in Vincentian Service Day and the Fraternity

and Sorority Life Week, both planned by DePaul faculty, staff

and students.

Although the summer months generally mean no work for

many organizations, the Delta Colony pushed ahead and

made plans for the upcoming year. In addition to these

plans, the colony also attended the bi-annual Ekklesia that

took place in New Orleans, Louisiana. The three men that

attended the conference learned more about dynamic

recruitment, colony life and presented the colony to the

expansion committee of Phi Gamma Delta.

Throughout this 2013-2014 academic year, the momentum

increased as the men saw their way towards chartering. The

colony proved successful with recruitment with a 100

percent retention rate, initiating 11 new men. Several

community service events were highly attended, as well as

participation in other Greek lettered organizations. The

colony is currently working on their petition to charter and is

hopeful for a chartering weekend in the fall of 2013.

III. Executive Leadership

The executive leadership, more commonly referred to as the

Cabinet, serve as the lead in guiding the colony towards

future success. See Appendix A for organizational chart.

Page 4: Fiji Fall Quarterly Report - Virbmedia.virbcdn.com/...DePaulAnnualReport2012-2013.pdf · Throughout this 2013-2014 academic year, the momentum increased as the men saw their way towards

Each cabinet member is responsible for the growth and

well-being of the committees and chairs that he oversees.

The following five roles comprise the cabinet of the Delta

Colony.

1. President: The president is charged with overseeing the

colony as it relates to the fraternity experience. The

president works with the cabinet team to develop initiatives

and guides that promote the success and well-being of the

colony. The president specifically oversees the risk

management chairman and he also serves as the judicial

board chairman.

2. Treasurer: The treasurer oversees the financial success of

the colony. He is responsible for laying and collecting dues

as approved by the general body. The treasurer specifically

oversees the fundraising chairman, the philanthropy

chairman, and the social chairman.

3. Recording Secretary: The recording secretary manages all

internal communications. He is charged with the

administrative robustness of the colony through the

procurement of minutes covering all Colony meetings and

compilation of records. The recording secretary specifically

oversees the Bylaws committee, community service

chairman, the recruitment chairman, and the scholarship

chairman.

4. Corresponding Secretary: The corresponding secretary is

responsible for communicating with those outside of the

colony. This includes but is not limited to IFC, PHC, MGC,

FSL Life Advisor, campus press and other student

organizations. He also prepares materials for parents of

potential new members and communication with

International Headquarters. The corresponding secretary

specifically oversees the graduate relations and publications

committee and the Interfraternity Council chairman.

5.Historian: The historian is guarded with the safekeeping of

the ritual. The Historian works with each individual brother to

maintain the secrets of the colony and ensure the knowledge

of the ritual to each man. The historian specifically oversees

the brotherhood chairman, the intramurals chairman, and the

pledge education chairmen.

The Corresponding Secretary and the Recording Secretary

worked towards finalizing a website for the Delta Colony at

DePaul University. The website is live, but has not yet been

broadcasted because the petition is a part of the pages.

The Trident Newsletter

Two issues of “The Trident” newsletter have been published

this academic year. The newsletter is targeted for Graduate

brothers, but the colony also shares it with the Fraternity and

Sorority Life community, friends and family.

Social Media

Twitter and Facebook are being utilized as an output for

outreach, not only for the DePaul community, but also our

graduate brother community.

Internal Communication

The Recording Secretary sends weekly emails that contain

information pertinent to the brothers. In addition, brothers

have many platforms through which they can communicate

effectively.

Goals and Accomplishments

I. 2011-2014 Strategic Plans

Introduction

“Developing the Foundation for the FIJI Gentlemen” is the

strategic plan for the Delta Colony of Phi Gamma Delta at

DePaul University for the period 2011-2014. The plan, which

has been built upon by Cabinet, Committee Chairmen, and

brothers, establishes the Colony’s priorities and will guide

its ongoing work in learning and success.

The strategic plan incorporates the Fraternities mission and

goals as foundational elements.

GOAL 1 Broaden, diversify, and strengthen our bond of

brotherhood.

RATIONALE TO GOAL 1 Brotherhood events encourage

brothers to attend, not as obligations, but to strengthen

bonds and socialize with brothers. As a result of the strong

events, better communication and a stronger brotherhood

will be formed.

GOAL 1 OBJECTIVES

1.1 Establish a reoccurring weekly brotherhood event.

1.2 Establish a weekly off-campus brotherhood event.

1.3 Establish a large-scale brotherhood event per quarter.

1.4 Create incentives to increate brotherhood attendance.

GOAL 2 Acquire men who are capable of leadership and high

scholastic achievement.

RATIONALE TO GOAL 2 Recruiting men of high quality is of

upmost importance in achieving success.

GOAL 2 OBJECTIVES

2.2 Consistently recruit 15-20 men during fall recruitment.

2.3 Consistently recruit 5-10 men during winter recruitment.

2.4 Utilize referrals and contacts from brothers.

2.5 Institute a dynamic recruitment protocol.

GOAL 3 Serve the DePaul and Chicago community through

volunteer and philanthropic work.

RATIONALE TO GOAL 3 Service is one of the five values Phi

Gamma Delta. Serving the community through volunteer

opportunities on and off campus will allow brothers to follow

the Vincentian mission of St. Vincent de Paul.

3.1 Establish one weekly reoccurring community service

event.

3.2 Establish one quarterly community service event.

3.3 Establish one quarterly philanthropic event.

on-campus blood drives.

3.5 Maintain quarterly community service records for each

brother.

GOAL 4 Strengthen the financial means of the colony

through fundraising and dues collection.

RATIONALE TO GOAL 4 “Brotherhood begins when the bills

are paid.” Finances are required in order to allow program-

ming, brotherhood, and overall operational success of the

fraternity.

GOAL 4 OBJECTIVES

needs of the colony.

4.2 Establish two quarterly large-scale fundraisers.

4.3 Motivate brothers to pay dues on time.

accounts.

Page 12: Fiji Fall Quarterly Report - Virbmedia.virbcdn.com/...DePaulAnnualReport2012-2013.pdf · Throughout this 2013-2014 academic year, the momentum increased as the men saw their way towards

GOAL 5 Increase graduate brother involvement in colony

events and meetings.

RATIONALE TO GOAL 5 Phi Gamma Delta is not for college

days alone. The fraternity experience expands beyond the

undergraduate years and into a lifelong commitment.

GOAL 5 OBJECTIVES

5.1 Establish relationships with Chicago area graduate

brothers.

5.2 Create and implement events specifically for alumni and

graduates.

5.3 Maintain a list of current Chicago and surrounding area

graduate brothers.

GOAL 6 Improve the scholastic ability of the colony through

academic programs and services.

attributes to Phi Gamma Delta. Strengthening academic

excellence will only enhance the fraternity experience for all

members.

among all fraternities.

6.3 Develop a scholarship program.

6.4 Host one academic speaker per quarter.

GOAL 7 Continue to develop a positive image of the “FIJI

Gentlemen” on the DePaul University campus.

RATIONALE TO GOAL 7 The FIJI Gentlemen exists because of

the social status and etiquette that each man exhibits.

GOAL 7 OBJECTIVES

7.1 Develop a sense of community through programs with

the Panhellenic, Multicultural Greek, and Interfraternal

councils.

7.2 Increase the image of Phi Gamma Delta through

individual and group actions of members.
