THANK YOU!

Thanks to all who donated First Communion garments. The following is an email from Carlos Roldan, Fr. English Center Food Pantry, Paterson.

Good Morning, I just spoke to the director of the First Communion Program at Saint John's Cathedral in Paterson about the first communion dresses/suits you donated. He got very happy because he knows that many of the parents of the kids that are receiving their first communion this year don't have the money to buy a special dress/suit, and we all know how expensive they are. I just wanted to share this with you, because I wanted you to know how important this is, and how much your parishioners are helping our community. As I always say we couldn't do it without your help. God bless you.

“TRUTH” In the movie, “A Few Good Men,” an investigating officer asks for the “truth” concerning a certain situation and the Commanding Officer answers him with “Truth? You can’t handle the Truth.” Can YOU handle the truth? Today’s 2

nd reading tells you that the

Lord knows all the inner workings of your heart so discern, in truth, all your thoughts, words, deeds and actions. Are you faithful to God’s Commandments in order to “remain” in Christ? The Gospel speaks of Christ as the True Vine and YOU as the branch. When the branch becomes detached from the Vine it withers and dies. It is Christ, the True Vine, who feeds and strengthens every individual branch so that they can bear much fruit. How much fruit do you bear? Do you know you are responsible for revealing Christ to your children, grandchildren family and friends, by word, deed and action? If you don’t, who will? Are you hoping they will get it through osmosis? Not in today’s culture. Today, Jesus calls you to either to be cut off as dead, dry wood or to burst forth with great faith in Christ, so as to bear much fruit. The choice is yours. Through prayer, attending Mass, reading Scriptures and receiving the Sacraments, you remain in Him, for “cut off from Him you can do nothing.” It is the very life of Christ that flows out from you to others. Remain in Him and your life becomes an arena of Faith, Hope, Charity and Love. You belong to Christ, who is TRUTH itself. THIS IS YOUR PROFOUND MISSION. THIS IS THE PURPOSE OF THE INCARNATION AND RESURRECTION. CHRIST DID IT ALL FOR YOU!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR HIM? THIS IS THE “TRUTH.” CAN YOU HANDLE THE “TRUTH”? Would you like to become Catholic or complete your Sacraments? Please call Monsignor Carroll, 973-838-6838 or Carol Mangani, 973-283-2218, for more information.

PRO-LIFE CORNER

Oh Mary, Mother of Jesus and our Mother, together with St. Michael, the Archangel, and the Heavenly Hosts of Angels, protect the unborn and ask our Heavenly Father to forgive and convert those hearts and souls who advocate or practice abortion and instill in them a respect and reverence for all human life. Give this world that peace and justice that can only come from following your Son, Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

First Reading: Acts 9:26-31 Paul the Apostle came to Jerusalem, where the other disciples were afraid of him. Then they learned that the Lord had spoken to Paul and he had preached openly in Damascus. When they learned that someone wanted to kill him, they protected him because they fully believed he had converted. Second Reading: I John 3:18-24 John clearly states that we must love one another. All people who believe in Jesus Christ can show their faith only through their actions. If people believe in Jesus and love one another as he commanded us, they prove that they are true believers in Christ. Gospel: John 15:1-8 Jesus compares himself to a vine, and compares his father to the vine-grower. He explains how God prunes the barren branches so that the rest might yield more fruit. He reminds them that apart from himself, his followers could not bear fruit.
