EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP -
RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS
I was recently reading an ar6cle about the real aspects of true
love. The psychologist wri6ng the piece said that many people hide
behind the words "I love you." They can start believing that if they
say it enough 6mes, it simply becomes true.
Jesus claimed that the world would know his disciples by the fact
that they loved one another. In the Church, we speak of loving one
another quite frequently. I hope that someone can tell that I am a
disciple of Jesus by the way I love others. However, that hope is
something I have to keep in the center of my mind because I fear too
oen that I speak more of love than act out of love.
As Chris6ans, we can find ourselves hiding behind our words.
History, unfortunately, has shown us that our witness of ac6on has
not always been profound enough. The world will surely know
whom it is we serve if we love like Jesus, we act like Jesus, and we
serve others like Jesus. Our stewardship will bear witness to the
transforming power of Jesus Christ, and we will bring others to him.
Our love will be an instrument of our evangeliza6on. Our words will
become true, not because we said them enough, but because they
are true.

May 307pm at St Bruno: Michelangelo, The Arst.*
In this video (80 minutes) from the Pivotal Players series,
we travel with Bishop Barron as he studies some of the
greatest works of art in the world. Michelangelo’s legacy
reveals the crea6ve poten6al of the human spirit and shows that
beauty is a route of access to God. Through humanity’s crea6ve
ar6stry we glimpse the power and glory of the Lord. We will gather
to watch this video on the Solemnity of the Ascension of our Lord,
celebra6ng the entry of Jesus’ humanity into Divine Glory!

We are planning for Alpha in the fall.
In the mean6me, here are some things our Alpha
guests had to say at the end of the last session: "The
facts about the Bible and Jesus in the first videos had
the most impact. How can people not believe when
they hear all those facts?" "I feel like these Alpha sessions
scratched the surface in answering the queson 'Why am I
here?'" "Before the course I knew a lot of factual 6dbits about my
faith, but ...not really organized in my head...The way that the Al-
pha course was presented helped me to make sense of it all...to see
the big picture. Prior to the course, I ...could liken my many
'factoids' to leaves that were floa6ng around or piled up. Now I
have the tree to hang them on!" Our Alpha course is successful in
part to our hosts and helpers and, of course, to our Advocate, the
Holy Spirit!

WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED
Queson: I've heard of the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.
What are they, and what's the difference?
Answer: As God has shown us mercy, so too are we called to
show mercy to those we encounter. We see mercy throughout the
Gospels, but the parable in MaQhew 25 forms the founda6on for
the first set of Works of Mercy. This parable of the last judgment
shows each person being asked how well they cared for those
around them, and being reminded that this care for those in need
is care for God Himself. Each person is asked if they have fed the
hungry, given drink to the thirsty, clothed the naked, sheltered the
stranger, cared for the sick, and visited the imprisoned.
These along with burying the dead are the Corporal Works of
Mercy, as they primarily concern the physical life of a person.
The list of the Spiritual Works of Mercy developed later. These
ac6ons of love primarily concern the inner life of a person. They
are instruc6ng the ignorant, counseling the doubSul, admonishing
sinners, bearing wrongs pa6ently, forgiving offenses, comfor6ng
the afflicted, and praying for both the living and the dead. All of
these ac6ons are concrete ways of bringing the love of God into
the world.
Are you considering serving the Church as an Ordained Deacon? The
Church calls men to be deacons “inservice” to the People of God. If
you are a man (married or single), that feels this call and wants to
know more, please contact the Office for Diaconate Forma6on at
4147582207 or[email protected].
Lord Jesus,
In remembrance,
I faithfully pray
For men and women who have been called to serve:
Seeking peace where there is violence,
Protecng lives where there is peril,
Upholding freedom where there is oppression.
On this day, I join in prayer
For all who have lost life or ability or loved ones in war.
May their sacrifices have connued meaning,
Love’s comfort endure beyond the pain, and
Their service be saluted with unforgo.en gratude.
Amen.

Jesus said, "Love
each other as I
have loved you."
He died on the cross so that your sins and
mine might be forgiven. Jesus was human like
you and me. He shared his food with friends.
He visited and healed the sick. He cried
when his friends died. He told stories to help
people learn about his Father in heaven.
When you show love for others, Jesus smiles
because he is very proud of you.

INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK
How do people know that you are a
disciple of Jesus Christ? Some folks prefer
to keep their faith a secret and rarely
men6on their belief in Jesus. Others are
more vocal and readily tell people that
they are Chris6an. For Jesus, there is
another way to recognize whether one is a
disciple. He tells his friends that all will
know they are disciples if they have love
for one another. The love to which Jesus
calls us to is not just an earthly love. It's
not just about doing nice things for people
or even keeping posi6ve thoughts about
others. Jesus' love is divine love. Put
simply, Jesus became human so that we
can become divine. We are called to look
at the world, people, and ourselves as
God does. This requires uncondi6onal
compassion and a whole lot of mercy and
forgiveness. We cannot do this alone. That
is why the risen Christ remains with us,
especially through the Eucharist, to help us
become who he is. If done correctly, there
will be no ques6on about who has our
allegiance.
