FIFA 15 will mark the franchise’s first proper outing on next‐generation hardware with a title being 

built from the ground up to tap into the superior horsepower of the Xbox One and PS4 consoles. 

We have already  seen what a huge difference  this additional hardware  can make with  the  re‐

release of FIFA 14 for next‐gen – the game was markedly more crisp looking and finally did away 

with the so‐called ‘cardboard cut‐out’ fans to be replaced by far more life‐like spectators. With FIFA 

15’s highly anticipated release later this year there is a growing feeling among fans that this title 

could be the one to address some of the series’ persistent shortcomings. This isn’t to say FIFA is in 

any way a poor game – the football sim is hands down the best video game of its kind, there are 

just  tweaks  to  be made  to make  it  even  better.  As  fans we  obviously want  EA  to  implement 

additional changes, tweaks and innovations to make this next‐gen debut the finest FIFA game yet. 

It’s hard to think of an occasion when a new entry into the FIFA franchise hasn’t been superior to 

its predecessor – EA have a very good track record in this regard and there is no reason to doubt 

that FIFA 15 shouldn’t be the best in the long‐running series. There are a number of outstanding 

issues or absent features which EA need to resolve in order to take their game to the next level. 

The customer is always right so give the people what they want EA! So with that in mind, here are 

the 10 Tweaks To Make This The Best FIFA Yet.   

10. Dynamic Weather

It  takes you away  from  the ultra‐realistic experience  that  is FIFA when you’ve played a  full 90‐

minute game and the torrential downpour hasn’t eased up once. Clearly such a meteorological 

scenario isn’t entirely outside the realms of possibility but it would be nice to see a slightly broader 

range of possibilities. It’s May right now and across the country we are experiencing a mishmash 

of sunny spells mixed in with heavy showers – this should be a possibility in FIFA 15. A game should 

be able to start sunny and end dampened by rain and vice versa. Not to sound too pedantic but in 

FIFA it either rains or it doesn’t, making no room for degrees of rain. A game which goes to such 

great  lengths  to  achieve  ultra‐realism  should  permit  for  a  broad  degree  of  different weather 

intensities, from an unobtrusive drizzle to a full‐on monsoon. While we’re talking about weather 

related details we might  as well highlight how  stupid  it  is  that  a  game  can  see  two halves of 

ceaseless, unrelenting  rain yet Real Madrid will still walk out with  their kits whiter  than white. 

Throw some mud on the situation, EA!   

9. The Twelfth Man

The ability to have matches against your friend with a system keeping track of them was a  long 

overdue addition which was unanimously well received by fans of the world’s best football‐sim the 

world over. Surely even the next‐gen hardware offered by the PS4 or Xbox One is unnecessary in 

transferring Online Friendlies to Ultimate Team? It seems like more of an oversight on EA’s part as 

opposed to technological limitations inhibiting it. Ultimate Team is FIFA’s most widely played game 

mode and it makes absolutely no sense that we are unable to track our contests against our friends. 

We all want to have the opportunity to take our team of the world’s greatest players – meticulously 

chosen and adapted to suit our specific playing style – and use it to make our friends pray that they 

are never unlucky enough to cross us again. However, without any tracking facilities you are only 

as good as your last game and will never be able to build up a reputation as definitively being the 

best.   

7. Historic Teams

FIFA offers us a near‐exhaustive list of every club of note on the planet yet it still doesn’t quite boot 

the ball out the stadium. It must be remembered that FIFA is a game and it would be appreciated 

if we had the ability to choose from a selection of teams in exhibition mode we can’t see play week‐

in‐week‐out on Sky Sports 1. Granted – we already have the limited options of the World XI and 

Legends XI (both stacked with notable absentees) but why not push the boundaries with the game’s 

proper next‐gen debut? It would be nice to see the introduction of some historically great teams 

as notably utilised by the Madden series. Want to see what all the hype about the Liverpool team 

of the early 80s was? Want to relive Ferguson’s glory days with that United squad of the late 90s? 

Forgotten how good  that 2004 Arsenal  side were? There’s no  reason why  sides  such as  these 

shouldn’t be honoured with a playable FIFA team.   

6. The Collection

Ultimate Team stalwarts will remember a time when FIFA collided with the world of Pokémon, to 

excellent effect. One of the pivotal maxims of Pokémon – “gotta catch ‘em all” – was applied to 

Ultimate Team as the player was tasked with completing a virtual sticker book of the game’s players, 

not dissimilar  from  the world  cup book  flooding  the aisles at  Sainsbury’s. As an alternative  to 

discarding a player and receiving a negligible amount of coins  in return you could  instead send 

them to your Collection. Bonuses would be received for completing full teams and you would also 

have a record of the greats who once occupied your Ultimate Team if your word was ever to be 

doubted.  It  was  a  shocking  development  when  they  scrapped  The  Collection  a  couple  of 

instalments ago as  it seemed  to bring only positives  to  the  table. EA would be well advised  to 

reintroduce this sporting‐Pokédex to proceedings with FIFA 15.   

5. Champions League

It is a strange fact that club football’s biggest competition in the Champions League is completely 

missing from FIFA. EA Sport’s superb soccer‐sim  is bursting with game modes, tournaments and 

leagues yet for some unknown reason offers the so‐called European Cup in the Champions League’s 

stead. It may come as some surprise to the many not acquainted with the football gaming world’s 

notorious runner‐up Pro Evolution Soccer, but Konami’s game actually possesses the licence to the 

Champions  League.  Pro  Evolution  Soccer  2014  was  recently  made  free  for  Playstation  Plus 

subscribers only to be shunned as a lesser alternative to the FIFA experience. In short, PES just isn’t 

FIFA. Possessing all the other rights to the licence of teams, stadiums and badges, it would make 

far more sense for FIFA to have the Champions League rights.   

4. Fix Transfer Market Glitches

On far too many occasions will a player be in need of a contract to allow their star forward to have 

a few extra games, only to click onto the transfer market to be told that zero such items are listed 

right not. That’s right – no contracts available in the whole world right now… Unfortunately, such 

examples are but the tip of the iceberg as far as the buying and selling of commodities goes on FIFA 

Ultimate Team. All too often players are reporting the loss of coins or valuable cards – which after 

all do pertain to some actual monetary value – due to EA’s severs being seemingly unable to cope 

with the high volume of action they must experience at all hours of the day on Ultimate Team. A 

great deal of time and effort goes into acquiring these virtual chunks of gold and so for them to 

sometimes vanish into a state of non‐existence is infuriating to say the least. At the very least some 

security systems should be put in place with FIFA 15 to ensure that we have some way of recouping 

these senseless loses.   

3. Heading Adjustments

Heading is clearly a huge part of the modern game, both on the back‐foot making vital clearances 

with the likes of John Terry or Vincent Kompany or utilising the heads of strikers who have become 

heading‐specialists like Radamel Falcao or Fernando Llorente. However, when you’ve been on the 

receiving end of a headed hat‐trick from Sebastian Giovinco you do have to start contemplating 

that maybe those brain‐boxes over at EA Montreal have placed slightly too much stock in the power 

of  the  head.  The  headed  goal  can  be  a  thing  of  true  beauty  but witnessing  a  player  like  the 

aforementioned Sebastian Giovinco and his 5’3” frame leap – like a salmon out of water – over the 

back of 6’6” Brede Hangeland to head the ball in really does leave you scratching your head. Rather 

than just repeatedly smacking the shoot button after deploying a tasty looking ball from the win 

you should instead have to time the jump of your forward to make things slightly more demanding.   

2. Authentic Managers

In a game which has quite evidently gone to painstaking measures to guarantee realism, it is almost 

baffling that authentic managers are their likenesses aren’t included to stand on the touchline with 

their team. Every year we see how accurately they’ve replicated Rooney’s jaw‐line or how true‐to‐

life  Cristiano Ronaldo’s  use  of  hair‐gel  is  so  to  not  have  actual managers  seems  like  a  glaring 

omission.  With  the  huge  personalities  involved  in  modern  football  management  and  how 

frequently  they make  headlines  they  certainly  should  have  a  place  in  the  FIFA  franchise.  In 

particular,  leading managing  figures should be  included such as  Jõse Mourinho  (complete with 

swagger),  Arsene Wenger  (complete  with  copiously  long  coat),  Alan  Pardew  (complete  with 

attitude) and Tony Pulis (complete with CPFC‐merchandise cap). The new FIFA World Cup game 

features 19  licenced managers to do the strategic work alongside the players. This represents a 

huge step in the right direction. Let’s hope EA run with this idea and implement it into FIFA 15.   

1. Wager Mode

Football and gambling will always go hand‐in‐hand – it is just one of life’s inevitable facts. With this 

in mind  it  should  come  as no  surprise  that  fans have been  clamouring  for  some  time  for  the 

introduction of a wager mode into the newest instalment of FIFA. These high‐stakes games would 

either be played for a mutually agreeable bounty of coins or a suitable player. Though these games 

could potentially cause no end of arguments  in school classrooms  (or offices),  there can be no 

denying the fact that the anxiety and tension would lead to some extremely entertaining moments. 

Already unsanctioned wager matches are rife on FIFA with Ultimate Team‐fanatics taking to twitter 

or  other  online  hangouts  to  arrange  these  unofficial wagers.  As  you might  expect  given  the 

unsavoury nature of many of  FIFA’s online players,  this  type of  agreement  regularly  results  in 

players getting scammed out of their prized FUT possessions. By  introducing a governed wager 

facility FIFA would not only add an extremely  interesting mode to their Ultimate Team suite but 

would also eliminate the reprehensible work of the scammers.
