CHICAGO NEIGHBORHOODS BY CULTURE

GERMAN: Lincoln Square

ITALIAN: Little Italy

FRENCH: West Loop

SPANISH: Pilsen

CHINESE: Chinatown

This historically Central European neighborhood invites students to eat at the Chicago Brauhaus, awe at a piece of the Berlin Wall, visit an Old World apothecary and learn at the DANK Haus German American Cultural Center.

Settled by Italian immigrants in the late 19th century, this neighborhood was known for everything from Italian beef to the mafia. Groups visit the Italian American Sports Hall of Fame, piazzas and restaurants.

As a sister city to Paris, Chicago’s longstanding cultural relationship with France begs exploration. In a chic neighborhood, students cook French food at the Alliance Français and visit other influential sights.

With a large and influential Hispanic population, this colorfulneighborhood is home to street side murals, the National Museum of Mexican art, taquerias and more. Top it off with a Salsa lesson!

Established in 1905, this neighborhood is still a center for Chinese immigrants. After touring Chinese architecture and monuments, visit the Chinese American Museum and the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago.
