Ur is the root of the Light of Fire. From time immemorial this

Radiant Principle has attracted the hearts of many peoples. Thus, from the covenants of the past let us transport ourselves intofutureattainments.

  • FIERYWORLDPartI

    1.TheelementofFire,themostall-pervading,themostcreative,

the most life-bearing, is least observed and esteemed. The humanconsciousness concerns itself with a multitude of empty andinsignificantconsiderations,butthemostwonderfulofallescapesit.Peoplequarreloverapiceinthebazaar,buttheyhavenodesiretostretchforththeirhandstothetreasure.Muchthathasbeentoldabout the heart must also be applied to the Fiery World, but withparticular acuteness. The impetus of Fire is as strong as thestructure of a crystal. Not by accident have globes and crystalspheresbeenemployedbyclairvoyants.Liveembersareneededforthe purification of the consciousness; the rainbow flame affirmsthestrivingofthespirit.AmultitudeofapplicationsoftheworkofFirerevealthemselvesasthemoststrikingconditionsofexistence.Beginning with the ordinary light formations visible to the openeye, uptothecomplexfiresoftheheart, weareledintotherealmoftheFieryWorld.

    2. While observing the fiery signs one may note certain

subdivisions of people. Some strive eternally and cannot existwithoutthisupliftingmovement—beassuredthatthesebelongtothe element of fire. Even though they err, they cannot remaininactive. Observe them, and you will invariably discover theflaming force. But do not seek the creative Fire in the inertia ofearth, therollingundulationsofwater, thegustsofair.Wedonotwish to extol the fiery people unduly, but in truth it must be saidthattheymovetheworld.Oneshouldnotforgetthatthesepeopledo not find it easy to be in the midst of all other combinations.WhatissaidabouttheFieryAngelwithscorchedwingsiscorrect.Whenherushestosavetheworld,hisphosphorescentwingsbrushagainst the rocks of Earth and are scorched, and the Angel isweakened thereby. Thus is disclosed the marked differencebetweentheearthlyworldandtheFiery.

The earthly eye, though it be highly sensitive, does not usually

  • assimilate even the subtle manifestations. But, in turn, the SubtleWorld does not discern the fiery dwellers to whom the flamingheart can lead one. Thus one can understand the veneration forFire. Human strivings are needed for a natural affinity with theWorldofFire.Fromearlyyearstheybearinthemselves,asitwere,areflectionoftheHigherFire.Itisasifthesesparkscompelthemtowithdrawfromcontactwithotherelements;andthoseelementsdo not like these fiery orbs. Yet one cannot traverse the earthlypath without contact with Fire, hence it is better to know itsessentialnature.

People have grasped a crude manifestation in the formof electricity, but without applying the fiery properties of thehumanorganismtheycannotadvancetowardarefinementofthemanifestation. A new dawn for mankind will come when theunderstandingofFireenterslife.

    5. When we speak of the non-scorching fire, we must also not

forgettheconsumingFire.Whenthenunmoans,"Iburn,Iburn!"no physician knows how to alleviate it. The physician may evenapplycoldwater, forgettingthatoilcannotbesubmergedinwater.Fire can be allayed only by fire—in other words, by the energy ofthe heart, which flows during so-called magnetism. We treatinflammationwithacurrent;suchinflammationsmayflareupinvarious centers. But, actually, the chief danger lies close to theheart, the solar plexus and the larynx. These centers, being the

  • most synthetic, may be exposed to the most unexpected attacks.Whoeverhasevenonceexperiencedtheinnerfireunderstandsthedangeroftheconflagrationofthecenters.Heknowswhatagonyisexperiencedwhenthefirebreaksthrough.Inmostcasesmanisnotresponsibleforthis,exceptperhapsbecauseofirritation.Oftenthefire bursts out due to extraneous influences, and, in the case of arefined state of the organism, from cosmic causes. Fatigue of theheartactuallyopensthegatestotheenemy.ThusthecreativeFirecan be transformed into a destructive flame. This should beremembered, for the outbursts develop from small beginnings. Itshould also be remembered that the use of fiery energy requirescare. Great is the evil of needlessly spending the fiery energy ofanother. An Arhat can never be a vampire—this is a fundamentallawoflife.Therefore,wiseisthelawofeternalgiving.Itmayseemthat there is nothing in common between sacrifice and Fire;however, flamingsacrificeismentionedinallCovenants.

    6.Onemustmanifestspecialcaution.Youcanseehoweventhe

moralsofanationchange.Hence, ignorancereactstothepressureof the atmosphere. One must observe that ignorance clearlyaffirms the foundations of darkness. One can imagine how easilyan undeveloped brain deteriorates when the heart is silent. Themorals of the peoples droop like a withered apple tree. Thus thedangeroffieryepidemicsisnowgreat.

TheChaldeansclassifiedallsicknessesaccordingtotheelements;and they were not far from the truth, for the elements andluminaries chiefly condition the organism—the cosmic as well asthehuman.

    7. Just think! Each of us carries within himself the One Fire,

immutable throughout the entire Universe. No one cares toimagine that the universal treasure is within him. The elementsarenotidenticalintheentireCosmos;thechangeintheirqualitiesdoesnotpermitustoascribetothemidenticalness.Butthefireoftheheartaloneunitesthroughitsmagnetallworldstructures.Onemust think about this pre-eminence. It is necessary to utilize thistreasureintheentirestructureoflife.ThereisbutoneLightofFireinalltheworld.WecanunderstandthatFiremanifestsatthemost

  • remote distances. There is nothing supernatural or mysteriousabout it. Even a lesser disciple has heard about the all-pervadingFire,buthehasfailedtorealizeitsapplication.

    8. The manifestation of varied fires does not contradict the

oneness of the essence of Fire. The rhythm of tension alone willchangethecolorofthevisibleflamefromsilverthroughreddish-goldtoanintenseruby-red.Theruby-redoftensionisrare,fornoteveryheartcanendureit.

    9. In order to accept and admit Fire as the path to Hierarchy, as

the path of love and compassion, it is necessary to be affirmedirrevocably with one's entire heart. Only thus will the small starsbecomeflaminggiants.

    10. Let the straitened times also be blessed. Precisely at such

timesdowelearntodistinguishthesignificantfromthemediocre. In the days of contentment our vigilance becomes obscured, yetthis quality is especially needed when approaching the fieryspheres. Hence oppression and tension are so precious. They notonly increase vigilance and impetuosity they also force new firesfrom our innermost depths. Let the fire of the Tara be especiallyclose.Thus,letusgrowtolovetheunexpectedasthesourceofnewjoy. Verily, the best fire is kindled through joy. Hence, straitenedtimesareahorroronlyfortheignorant;forthosewhoknow, theyare simply a source of events. The fires bring close even remoteactions. To some, what has been said will appear to be a coldabstraction, but this will signify a heart that is cold and its fireextinguished. You already know the heat of the heart, and youappreciatetheunexpectedMessenger.Thereforeitissoimportantto follow the Lords; one must leave behind dark determinations.OnlytheFireoftheLordswillkindledaring.Therefore,everywordabout the Lords must be valued. Fireseemingly transforms all fiery substances and reveals theluminousmatterlyinginthefoundationofeverythingthatexists.Thesamecanbesaidaboutthemagnetofafieryheart;initsownway it discloses the fiery nature of everything that draws near it.Thus, through the fiery heart one can observe fiery qualities. It isonly necessary to discover such a heart and with great cautionutilize it in this experiment. In such experiments one mustremember that the uncovering of luminous matter can beextremely dangerous under crude surrounding conditions. Thedanger of complete Samadhi is also dependent upon the samequalityofFire.Nevertheless, donotresistthefierymanifestationsif they do not overburden the heart. In the years of Armageddonthe manifestations are, of course, highly involved, because therhythms of the Fire of Space and of the subterranean fire areintercepted.Usually, suchviolationsofrhythmarenottakenintoconsideration, and hence they increase the cosmic agitation stillfurther.

    12. The approaching fiery waves are extremely terrifying if one

Unprecedented times! The salutary Fire is transformed through

  • ignoranceintoadevourer!

ancientCovenant. But,havinggrownmorecallous, peoplebegantoforget what Fire was indicated by the Wise. The fire became aphysicaloneandmagiccirclesoffiremadetheirappearance. Thus, people always belittle their essential nature. Actually, any livingfireisahealingone, butnoresincancomparewiththefireoftheheart.Letthemrememberatleastaboutthequalityofearthlyfire, yet in truth the time has again come to return to the primarysource; otherwise it is not possible to cross the boundary nearwhich humanity already stands. The earthly forces have beendepleted and strained by humanity, and the Highest Powers arealarmed. Only the fiery, illumined consciousness can restore thebrokenbridgeofascent.

    16. Is it possible for one belonging to the fiery element to be

transformedintoacreatureofotherenergies?Impossible.Butonebelonging to another element can be transformed into a fierybeing, because Fire is omnipresent. Of course, these leaps are noteasy. Great exertion of spirit is needed to transmute the heart forunification with the higher energy. But the Fiery Gates are notclosed—"Knock, and it shall be opened unto you." Thus, allTeachingssummontotheFieryBaptism.

    17.ThesubstanceoffieryimmunitywasdescribedbyZoroaster.

    18. Indeed, the bacilli of cancer exist. They can be detected and

killed primarily by the fire of the heart. If the absence of psychicenergycontributestotheirgrowth, thenthefireoftheheart, beingthe highest expression of consciousness, destroys them. In fact, everything that is readily consumed by the higher energy can bemitigated also, to a certain extent, by physical fire. The roots of

  • many plants contain in themselves potent fires of the vegetablekingdom and can be useful where the fires of the heart are as yetinactive.

    19.Youalreadyknowaboutthesignificanceofthethirtiethyear

for fiery manifestations, but one should especially guard theorganism up to the seventh year. In children, even in the mosthighly developed, one should never force nature—Fire will nottolerate compulsion. One should know how to open the door, buteachcoercionmaycauseirreparableharm.Ontheotherhand, oneshould not inordinately facilitate the child's striving, sinceexcessive help creates weaklings. Therefore, the Golden Path isordained. Thus, Fire demands cautious handling in all itsmanifestations.Clairvoyanceandclairaudienceareessentiallyfire-voyance and fire-audience. Fire is needed as the intermediary forallexaltedactions.SixhundredtimesdidWespeakoftheheart;soare We ready to speak six hundred and sixty-six times of thesignificance of Fire, if only to affirm the definition of Fire as atriumphal ladder. People cannot exist without turning to Fire; inthe earthly world or in the Subtle World, they turn to the higherMeditation. But We do not speak of fire worship, for there will beignoramuses and fanatics who will try to raise this absurdaccusation.Ispeakofthehighestattainment,whichwillbringoursubtlebodytotheFieryWorld.

    20. Every pilot will tell you not to turn the rudder too sharply.

But one should speak even more emphatically about humanconsciousness; this crystal is formed slowly, yet each moment ofcumulationisaspatialjoy.Eachonehasaheartbeat, butonerarelyobserves the fiery substance. Therefore We do not always speakabout Fire everywhere, except where Fire has already beenaccumulated.

    21. The human eye does not see the most powerful electric

vibrations. The same is true with regard to fiery gradations.Incidentally, this circumstance always hinders the Teaching ofFire. The smaller manifestations of fiery energies will be sensed, and thus admitted, but higher and more refined manifestations

  • will become imperceptible to the modern apparatus, and to theconsciousness which has not karmically approached the elementof fire. But contemporaries do not readily admit the imperfectionoftheapparatusandespeciallytheirowninexperience.Thelackofsuch acknowledgement becomes a great obstacle, and instead ofmoving forward valuable time must be spent in instilling anunderstanding of the nature of Fire. However, during thesereiterationsabouttheconceptofFire, ausefulaccumulationtakesplace, whichwillbeindeliblyinscribeduponthebrain.Whateverisdone, at least let those who cannot assimilate through the heartperceive through the brain. Our duty is to proffer the shortestpaths, but patience will be found to follow the longest roads also. The chief requisite is steadfastness, when in your heart youyourself know that there is no other way; therefore the SubtleWorld is achieved only by means of Fire. Thus, knowledge of ouressentialnatureisnotonlyinknowingbutalsoinsensing.

    22.Non-perceptionofthehighestcurrentsofFireis,toacertain

extent, analogous to a priest who through daily contact becomesaccustomedtothecurrentofthesanctuary.Itisknownthatsaints,or exalted Spirits, surrounded by streams of Fire, did not perceivethis highest manifestation. Indeed, those who live in the SubtleWorld do not notice its peculiarity, just as those who communewithFirefailtoregardthisconditionasextraordinary.Avirtuosodoes not consider it unusual that he plays beautifully, this isalreadycustomaryforhim. Thus, too, theFieryWorlddescendstoearthly conditions, and those who are in contact with it lose thesenseofstrangeness.

    23. Approaching manifestations of Fire, we must bear in mind

various gradations. The so-called passages through fire differgreatly.Thelowesttypeoffakirsrubtheirbodieswithashesmixedwith a mineral dust, and thus gain a certain resistance to fire. 24. They will say that fire as an element is too elusive for

observation. You may answer that fire makes itself even moreapparent than other elements. In observing man's organism, areearth or water more evident? Fire is more easily evidenced in thetemperature, the pulse, and especially in that tremor whichaccompanies all fiery manifestations. This is not a tremor of fear, but unification with the pulse of the element. Does intercoursewithearthorwaterevokesuchatremor?ButFire,eveninasmallmeasure,producesaspecialsensation.Thus,letthemnotspeakoftheunattainabilityoftheFireofSpace.

    25. It is especially valuable to cognize in one's own heart

communion with the fiery essence. In the Middle Ages, of course, they would have added to this the fire of the stake. But even inthose times, valorous men were found who did not fear to speakaboutthatwhichtheyperceivedandsensedwithinthemselves.

    26.TheFierySerpentrisingabovetheChaliceintheformofthe

serpentofMoses, liketheArabicfigureeight, indicatesthetensionof the Chalice, because the Chalice is filled with Fire. Theaccumulations and precipitations in the Chalice constitute thefiery substance. Thus, primarily we are fiery beings. Only withsuchconvictiondowebegintogrowtheso-calledfierywings.

    27. Observation of people who love the structure of flame

constantly yields new deductions. Approaching Fire, we begin todiscern the rhythm of energy, which produces all combinations. One should love this element with full understanding, in otherwords, withthoughtsinharmonywithspace.Ifwearepreparedto

Thus one should understand that even the lowestconsciousnessesarebeingdrawnupward.Evenfairytalesspeakofgnomes who cannot exist without devotion to the Fiery Beings. Thus the ancients tried to inculcate fiery conceptions in thechildren'sconsciousnesses.Nowadaysscience,throughthecalorictheoryandastrochemistry,givestheidenticalfairytaleabouttheGreatFire.Buttheexceptionalcharacterofthefierymanifestationsstill does not permit the average man to introduce the concept ofFire into his daily life, so that Fire remains within the confines ofan undesirable abstraction. One must overcome this limitation; Ispeakasaphysician.

    28. All achievements and heroic deeds are essentially fiery

actions. The higher energy transports people across the precipice.Itmaybeasked,"Doesnotthefieryenergyparticipateintheriseofcrime?" Certainly, this same energy can raise a bloody knife;therefore We advise not to turn the Fire of Benefaction into theflame of destruction. Besides personal harm, the flame ofdestruction contaminates the surrounding space. Moreover, aflame of evil is aroused by the decomposing vortices of the lowerstrata.Ithaslongbeensaidthatsinnersthemselvesfeedthefiresofhell.Peoplearethemselvesresponsiblefortheextentofevil.Asit is, a vast amount of evil is not realized, and people refuse torecognize whence come these hideous burns. Let us then be toiling and blessedsmiths. Beneficent Fires are borne high up by the vortexes of thefar-offworlds.

Once there existed a trial by fire. He who was tried approachedthe fire, and the fire, at contact with truth, rose upward, but a liedeflected the flame. With all its imperfections, this trial brings tomindthepossibilitiesofthereactionofFire.

    30. On finding himself beyond the boundaries of the three

dimensions even the most cold-blooded person will be terrified ifhis heart is unprepared for the next realization. One cannot leapfrom one state to another without a fiery tempering. Thus, it isimpossible to assimilate the beauty and solemnity of the SubtleWorld without a timely refinement of the heart. One can standinsensate in the dark before the most wondrous works of art, butthe darkness is within ourselves! And one can kindle the SpatialFireonlybythefireoftheheart.IthasbeensaidmanytimesthattheGreatFireismanifestedthroughourhearts.Therefore,lethimwhoremainsindarknessblameonlyhimself.Butitisterrifyingtoremain in the darkness of the fourth dimension, and all thesucceeding dimensions become hideous nightmares when notilluminedbythefireoftheheart.

  • however, rulers and courts of law utilized this as a means ofsecuring evidence, and thereby they introduced the element ofcompulsion. But everything coercive and artificial is contrary tothefundamentalsofExistence.

    38. People often complain of the isolation of the Subtle World,

which is already inaccessible to Earth. Yet the Ayur-Vedictraditions foresaw this earthly alienation. There exists a plantextract which, when rubbed into the skin permits an approach tothe Subtle World, facilitating its visibility and tangibility. But forthis a complete detachment of the consciousness from Earth isrequired. Moreover, such coercion is impermissible in thereconstruction of the world. 43.Toacertaindegree,thedifficultyofunderstandingisdueto

thelimitationsoftheearthlylanguage.Allthesymbolsandhigherconcepts are conventionalized to an absurd degree. When manobserved something beyond the limits of daily life, he began tospeak of it in vague and unusual terms, which meant somethingentirelydifferenttohisneighbor.Tothiswereaddedtheanomaliesof sight, taste, and hearing, resulting in a complete babel. Whenman attempted to express the supreme Hierarchic Concept, hetried to string together the best syllables and only achieved

Then, do not tire yourself with argument, butremainsilentincordialsolicitude.Letthefieryenergywork, itwill know how to find at least a narrow entrance. Thus, in allcircumstances, remember that you possess a store of the all-pervadingenergy.

    44. Also remember that the fiery energy grows and works

incessantly if the heart is aflame. Thus, it is easier to understandthe already mentioned divisibility of the spirit. Flame is divisiblewithout harm and does not require either space or time. Thus, whenyouareseensimultaneouslyindifferentcountries, youneednot be surprised, for this is only one of the qualities of the fierytension. It must beunderstood that this element demands the highest co-measurement, profound circumspection, and caution. Each AgniYogi is primarily wise in the apportionment of this substance. Hewill be thrifty rather than extravagant. As a faithful guardian heknows that the highest substance is purified through lofty laborand suffering. He knows that each energy of Fire is like a rareblessing. The Fire of Space demands manifestation; and heunderstands the value of this finding. Only then can he beentrustedwiththeoceanofFire.

Therefore I ask all co-workers to be sternly circumspect. Thuswilltheypreservethetreasurethatgrowsintheheart.Itisbestnotto scatter it into the abyss of darkness, where each torch will be
