Having the right place to study is as important as having good study skills. Your child’s study environment can be a big factor in how successfully he/she will learn and retain information and be able to apply it in exams. Here are some ways your child’s surroundings impact his / her studying and how you can make your child’s study settings more conductive to learning. Study area Even the physical arrangement of furniture and the layout of a room can affect your child’s ability to study. In a cramped, crowded room, your child may feel restricted and stuck. Take some time to create a clean and organized. Lighting It’s almost impossible for your child to stay focused on his/her studies while straining his/her eyes to read in dim lighting. Adequate and appropriate lighting is a must for successful studying. Limit household chores and activities during study time It’s most important to limit your child’s activities at home while he/she needs the necessary time to study. Please allow adequate and sufficient time each day for studying. GRADE R PICNIC The Grade R learners will be having a picnic on Friday 18 May during school. FOUNDATION PHASE PARENTS EVENING Thanks to all parents who were invited and attended the Foundation Phase parents evening on Wednesday 16 May. GRADE 4 TRIP The Grade 4 trip to Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory will be on Tuesday 22 May. ADMISSIONS 2019 Registration for 2019 Grades R-9 is open until 31 May 2018. Application forms may be collected from and returned to the office by an adult. GRADES 6 & 7 WORLD KNOWLEDGE OLYMPIAD

SCHOOL FEES / EXEMPTION OF SCHOOLFEESExemption from paying school fees - applications close on 31 May. School fees are payable in advance. E-mail your child’s name, surname and grade to [email protected] for a statement.

SCHOOL UNIFORM BEZMANSTracksuits have arrived at Bezmans and warm jackets will arrive later in the month.

HAWKER PROBLEMIf any parent / guardian can please assist with this hawker problem outside our school on the pavements, it would be appreciated. Many parents are employed by the Traffic Police or Public Health and Safety Departments. Please assist with these hawkers who sell to our vulnerable learners after school. We have no control of what is being sold

and the litter also becomes a problem. The school has already approached many departments concerning this matter.

ALL FOUNDATION PHASE OUTINGS TERM 2In lieu of our Jubilee concert and all the expenses that you as parents have to incur, we have decided to cancel term 2 outings. Outings will take place in terms 3 and 4.

SPORTS AND CULTUREChoirThe choir learners will be doing an episode recording for ‘Sing in Harmony’ at Laerskool Lichtenburg on Thursday 17 May. We wish them all the best.ChessThere will be a chess tournament at Laerskool Protea Park on Saturday 19 May. Good luck to our chess players.

DERECK JACKSON BOOKSIf anyone would like to order a Dereck Jackson book please pay R100 to the cashier by this Friday and a bulk order will be done by the school.

LEARNERS BEING COLLECTED AFTER SCHOOLPlease do not leave your children on the pavement after school. If they are not collected timeously after trips and tours, the school may have to drop them off at the police station for their safety and protection.

MUSLIM LEARNERSFields College wishes all Muslim learners and their families a very blessed Ramadan.

JUBILEE CONCERTDVD’s / flash drivesIf parents would like to order a high definition recording on a flash drive or a low definition recording on a DVD it will cost R200. If enough copies are ordered then the recordings will be made. Kindly place your order for the Foundation Phase concert on 31 May and pay R200 at the cashier by 28 May 2018.

Jubilee concert informationThe various phases will perform on different evenings to celebrate our Jubilee (50 year) celebration. Please support these concerts and tickets are on sale at the cashier in the admin block. Grade 4-7 tickets will be available shortly, possibly next week.
